There will be demonstrations of knitting and needle felting techniques, advice on fillings for soft sculpture, and a discussion on combining plaster to textiles. The class also includes a worksheet and PowerPoint presentation showing to inspire further ideas after the session.
All levels of ability are welcome. The workshop is aimed at anyone with an interest in textiles or mixed media sculpture, wishing to explore the artistic potential of knitting. The emphasis is on creating experimental samples, rather than a finished piece.
Materials and equipment: -
Knitting needles or crochet hooks, ideally to match the size of the yarn; plus double pointed knitting needles if you have them.
Yarn, any conventional knitting yarn, although thicker yarns such as 4ply, DK, Arun, Chunky and Super Chunky, would work best. Also string, jute or garden twine, and felting yarns if you have them.
Scissors, for cutting threads
Internet access, with a microphone and webcam. Please only book is you are able to attend in real time.
Adults, with an interest in textiles or soft sculpture, wishing to explore the artistic potential of knitting. The emphasis is on creating an experimental sample, however the techniques could be adapted to create a garment, accessory or household item.
Basic knitting skills, including knit stitch, casting on and off.
Online using Microsoft Teams or a similar platform. You will be able to join as a guest, and will be sent a joining link a few days prior to the workshop. The language of instruction will be English.
The cost of the workshop is £15 per a person, plus the Cademy fee.
