Knitting the Rainbow is an experimental knitting workshop using simple techniques to explore colour:-

 

  • Using colour to express mood and atmosphere.

  • Exploring basic colour theory, to knit stripes and blocks of colour.

  • Creating a knitted patchwork.

 

The session includes a worksheet, knitting demonstrations, plus a PowerPoint presentation covering plus graduation dyeing with Procion MX Cold Water dyes. There will also be a range of samples, to inspire further exploration after the session.

 

Aimed at anyone with an interest in textiles and soft sculpture, the workshop examines the artistic potential of knitting. The emphasis is on creating experimental samples, rather than a finished piece, although techniques can be adapted to create a garment, accessory or household object.

 

What attendees will need: -

 

  • Knitting needles or crochet hooks.

  • Yarns, any will do, but bright rainbow shades if possible.

  • Several small stitch holders or safety pins.

  • Basic sewing kit, scissors, large eyed needles and embroidery threads.

  • Internet access, with a microphone and webcam. Please only book is you are able to attend in real time.
