Date/time: 10am-4.30pm, Wednesday 17 July 2024
Join me for a creative day of mark making and bookbinding inspired by local flora and fauna. In the morning, I will introduce some simple but effective mark making techniques using homemade botanical inks and leaves we have foraged from the Heart of Newhaven community garden. An opportunity to play and create a collection of nature themed decorative papers (you don’t have to be ‘good at drawing’ for this bit!).After a short break for lunch we will weave our papers into a leather or pleather covered book with nifty pockets and an exposed binding inspired by a creeping vine. There will be lots of opportunity to choose different colours of threads and add personal touches to make your book as unique as you are! This workshop is ideal for both beginners and keen bookbinders to learn a new range of creative bookbinding techniques. You will leave the workshop with a finished book that makes for a great sketchbook, gardening journal and/or notebook, as well as the skills and confidence to keep experimenting with botanical mark making and bookbinding at home.Following the workshop you will receive access to comprehensive video tutorials so you can continue making and adding to your book, with a reminder of the techniques covered in the workshop should you need it.
Accessibility: the Ink on Mesh studio is up a flight of stairs and isn’t accessible by lift, if this is a problem please get in touch as alternative workshop space on the ground floor is a possibility.
Price includes all materials, a cup of tea/coffee, something sweet and follow up instructions.
