This short introduction (10 mins) explains HTC (HTC stands for Heating Transfer Coefficient).
It also helps people understand the movement of heat - how it moves at different speeds into the home and out of the home.
SmartHTC (which uses an algorithm designed by Build Test Solutions) is a new way to measure how much heat a home needs. It is more accurate than using U-value calculations. A U-value calculation involves multiplying the U-value by areas. However, this makes the assumption that each square meter of a wall performs exactly the same. In reality, each square meter in a wall will perform differently.
This is due to a number of factors e.g. insulation in one area of the wall may be installed in a much better way than another part of the wall. Also, a U-value calculation can not determine how well a window has been fitted.
REMEMBER: A U-VALUE CALCULATION IS STILL REQUIRED FOR YOUR MCS WORK
This introduction course is being provided as initial training into HTC so that engineers can become familiar with the new technology. It can also help other people understand the movement of heat.
