Description

Pattern Drafting: The Basic Darted Bodice and Sleeve Blocks

On-Demand Online Course

Unlock the foundation of garment construction with this self-paced online course focused on drafting a Basic Darted Bodice and Sleeve Block. This is one of the essential starting points for creating well-fitted tops, dresses, jackets, coats—and even some underwear.

The darted bodice block, along with the basic skirt and trouser blocks, forms one of the three key foundation slopers in pattern drafting. From these, you can create virtually any design you envision. This versatile block can be used for both woven and knit fabrics.

Whether you're a beginner or brushing up your skills, this course suits all levels. You'll learn a grid-based drafting method developed by your tutor, Julia Burrows, which makes the process straightforward and beginner-friendly.

Because this is a darted block, it is shaped for bust fitting and not suitable for children's or men's wear. If you need a pattern for those, check out our Dartless Bodice Block course.

The darted bodice block is drafted to your personal body measurements, so it can accommodate any bust size—no need for full or small bust adjustments in future patterns. Once fitted, your block becomes a reliable tool for all your pattern-making projects.
