I spent a day with four friends (a college reunion weekend) in Jonathan's studio, in February 2023. (It was supposed to be on the boat on March 2020, but Covid got in the way!) Frustrating as the delay was, it was well worth waiting for! Jonathan was fabulous at teaching a variety of techniques, and was happy to answer our many questions. We spent the morning practising using copper, with a short break for delicious cake! The sun came out for us, and we were able to eat our lunch in a su...

My wife booked this course as a 13th birthday present for our daughter, we had no idea what to expect but what a revelation it was. Jonathan has the patience of a saint and his explanations of techniques, tools to use and materials is thorough but easy to follow as novices to jewellery making. After practising on several copper pieces, we were let loose on the silver, our daughter had a design for a ring she wanted, drew the idea down and although some elements were small and fiddly, Jonathan...

We booked a full day beginner's course with Salt Way Silver after receiving a recommendation by a colleague. We weren't disappointed! Jonathan gave us the most enjoyable day, helping us master the basics in the morning using copper and including silver soldering which set us up for an afternoon using the real stuff to make a necklace and gent's ring. The day was so well planned and structured by Jonathan and the background folk music soundtrack and home made cake for elevenses made everythin...

Fantastic day, achieved so much and took home a wonderful project in silver as well as some rather fine copperwork! Jonathan has a peaceful, well kitted-out studio and took two of us complete novices from working with copper wire and copper sheet to hone our basic skills into making a gift-worthy copper bracelet. In the morning session we learnt how to make links and jump rings to using the jeweller's piercing saw to finishing and polishing. In the afternoon we concentrated on our individua...

If crafting is your thing, with or without any skill, then you will love learning to make jewellery with Jonathan. I attended this course with my big sister and best friend. My sister was enthusiastic but nervous when she saw the list of tools we’d be using and skills we would be taught. She needn’t have been. Jonathan is a calm and patient teacher and didn’t just make it look easy. He broke down each step so it was actually very easy to follow. We all made very different bangles but we were ...
