Description

Dr Deborah Kingston and Dr Jonathan Hutchins present the widely sought-after workshop on how to use EMDR for Moral Injury. The workshop is heavily skills based and experiential.

This workshop will take place online via Zoom on Friday 9th October 2026, 9am-4:45pm. This includes two 15-minute comfort breaks and a 30-minute lunch.

We have applied for 6 CPD credits from the EMDR UK Association!

The aims of this workshop is to:

  • To provide an overview of what moral injury is and how it interacts with PTSD.

  • To recap the EMDR Standard Protocol.

  • To focus on adaptations of the standard protocol to shame based trauma and moral injury.

  • Skills practice and case discussion.

The EDI objectives are:

  • To enhance practitioners’ ability to provide inclusive EMDR therapy for individuals experiencing moral injury, including adapting assessment, formulation, and intervention to meet the needs of diverse populations.

  • To increase practitioner confidence and competence in using EMDR therapy with clients presenting with moral injury, including those from underrepresented or marginalised groups who may face barriers to accessing trauma therapy.

  • To explore how experiences of discrimination, racism, cultural exclusion, and social injustice may contribute to moral injury and shape trauma presentations, ensuring therapists recognise and respond to these contextual influences.

  • To support practitioners in developing culturally and contextually informed formulations of moral injury, considering the influence of cultural identity, religion, gender, neurodiversity, and socio-political context, and adapting EMDR interweaves and therapeutic approaches accordingly.

  • To increase awareness of how institutional betrayal, power hierarchies, discrimination, and systemic marginalisation can contribute to moral injury, supporting therapists to work ethically and with greater systemic understanding.

  • To encourage reflective practice regarding therapist positionality, language use, and assumptions, promoting non-stigmatising approaches that reduce shame and improve engagement with trauma therapy for diverse client groups.
