Colour Outside The Lines - A Gentle Introduction to Abstract Painting

This is a new Workshop provided by Helen, with the aim of introducing you to the art of Abstract Acrylic painting.

All levels of experience welcome (Age 14 upwards). Full instructions will be given to everyone during the session.

In this workshop, you’ll be gently guided by Helen towards finding out how to use a basic selection of various tools, colours, forms and shapes, in order to then create your own bespoke pieces of abstract art.

There will be a couple of relaxed projects included - the first exercise will be a small ‘floral’ style painting, using paints, palette knives, brushes and sponges to help you to get used to the materials and techniques.

The second exercise is a much more ‘free’ style of abstract painting, using basic lines and forms to create a framework within to work, and then being helped by Helen to interpret how you wish to add colour and details around that framework.

Abstract art is very subjective to each individual and therefore, whilst being guided during the session, each painting will very much reflect the feelings and preferences of the artists themselves. If you enjoy using your imagination and freedom to create, then you’ll find this workshop fascinating!

Please don’t forget to bring something with you to carry your project home in – a small lidded tray or box will be fine.

Acrylic paints are permanent once dried, so please wear appropriate clothing (not your best outfit!).
