I've always had a very limited perspective on EAL students and how schools should handle them. To enable children to properly utilise the National Curriculum, it has consistently given them the resources they need to learn the English language, including phonics, high frequency words, vocabulary, pictures, etc. Beyond assisting them in learning English, this short course helped me understand how EAL students should be supported and cared for in schools. For instance, their mental well-being.

Very good seminar. Lot's of information given out, very good hosts.Particularly good on whole family involvement and working with native and English at all times. We as teachers are inclined to only allow English to be spoken and should be able to speak some of their language. Vincent

Hi Vincent, We are so pleased you found it informative. We know exactly what you mean - it can initially feel counterintuitive to encourage the use of a home language - as if it will hold back their learning of English. For me personally, one of the languages I learnt as a second language is German and when I think back to my journey, it took a long time for me to me able to speak it fluently without first translating to or from English in my head first.
