Description

NEA 1 GCSE BOOST 2026

9.00-11.30am SATURDAY 19th September 2026

Suitable for all boards – AQA, EDUQAS, OCR

This workshop is a mix of short 10-minute presentations, activities, discussions and an opportunity for questions.

1. What are the issues for lower abilities?

We look at the issues for lower ability learners on the current GCSE NEA1 and how they can be addressed. For example: getting organised for practical work, applying food science theory, writing up research and evaluation.

2. How are NEA1 marks awarded and how can students maximise marks?

We will break down the exam marking criteria and highlight how marks are awarded for the higher bands. We will explore ideas for supporting researching, investigation, planning, analysis and evaluation skills.

  • What are the key differences between the bottom grade band and the next one up?

  • How can you help your students gain the skills they need to move to the next grade boundary and how can they practice and build confidence before NEA1 starts?

3. Opportunities to support learning - technical language and food science understanding for NEA1.

A chance to hear about a new resource to support your teaching.

4. First thoughts - This year’s NEA1 tasks for lower abilities.

An overview and observations on where lower abilities may struggle or misunderstand this year’s NEA1 tasks.
