Art & Flash with Anika Carpenter
Monthly online ekphrastic writing workshops exploring contemporary artworks for story inspiration.

Each month, in friendly, fast-paced workshops, Anika Carpenter introduces a different contemporary artist and three to four of their artworks. Each artwork comes with an optional writing prompt inspired by the piece, along with a ten-minute writing sprint. 

There is an invitation to share what you have written if you would like to.

ABOUT THE FACILITATOR

Anika Carpenter is a flash fiction author, workshop facilitator and artist with a background in the Fine Arts. Her fiction has been shortlisted for the Bath Flash Fiction Award and the Bridport Prize and has been published in numerous anthologies. You can find her stories at Gone Lawn, Ellipsis Zine, The Molotov Cocktail, Janus Literary and many more.


Anika received a Fine Art MA (distinction) with a Postgraduate Certificate in Education from Kingston University in 2010. She spent ten years working as an assistant to Turner Prize winning artists. Anika's own artwork has been exhibited at Towner Gallery and featured in numerous group exhibitions. She is the co-founder of Accident & Emergence (currently on hiatus) an artist-led project that organised collaborations, exhibitions and retreats. 

Anika's ekphrastic story 'Interview with Alice Moore, Potion Maker' won Bath Flash Fiction Festival's Great Flash Off competition in October, 2022. You can read it by clicking here

As well as running The Flash Cabin, Anika is a rep for Writers' HQ where she runs online sessions and in-person retreats in Brighton.
