How do I choose a Driving Instructor Trainer / Training Company?
We might be biased but we believe you should choose a Local, Friendly, Understanding and Modern Driving Instructor Training company.
There are a large amount of choices when looking for someone to train to become a driving instructor and you need to think carefully about what you want, need and are committing yourself to.
We like to think we are a little different to some of the large national franchises because we can offer a far more personal tailored approach to your needs.
Being local means we know and have worked in the areas you will be taking your learners to test in. Local knowledge of areas in which to train is invaluable.
We offer a friendly, personal service and are passionate about offering excellent customer service to all our trainees, instructors and learners.
We will offer you great value, high quality training with very flexible payment options.
You will have access to an ORDIT registered trainer throughout your training.
We WILL NOT offer you a training deal which sounds to be too good to be true that ties you into a long contract or fees for leaving early.
Steps to becoming a driving instructor
Check you are able to become a driving instructor
Before you begin training to become a driving instructor, you must first check you are eligible and register with the Driving and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA). To do this you must be over 21 years old and have held a driving licence for over three years, without holding any motoring convictions. You must also get a new Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check to start your application, even if you already have one.
Part 1 – driving theory
You can study this part at home using the online theory test resources we provide you with as part of your training. Once you’re ready you can arrange your Theory test at your local test centre. We’re here to give you a helping hand if there is anything you are unsure of too. The test itself will be testing your knowledge of road procedures, traffic signs and signals, driving test and laws, and instructional techniques.
Part 2 – driving ability
Your personal driving skills will need to be at a high level to pass the DVSA test. Our instructor trainers will be able to assess your current driving skills and provide help to get to the high level of competence required.
Part 3 – instructional ability test
A DVSA examiner will watch you for 40mins on-the-job, training actual learner drivers (or indeed experienced drivers) to determine if you are good enough to pass this third and final part of the qualification process. It is therefore essential that you gain as much practical on-the-job experience as possible of doing the job for real and you can do this under the supervision of one of our expert instructor trainers before you take this test.
Trainee Licence – EARN WHILE YOU LEARN in preparation for Part 3
With Driving Skills Academy we could provide you with the option to be operating and earning money as a driving instructor on a Trainee Licence within a few months. Whilst you are earning money on a trainee licence you can gain the valuable on-the-job experience with your own learners that will really assist you in passing the Part 3 instructional ability test.
