In this tried-and-tested creative writing unit, students step into the shoes of a detective, inspired by Enola Holmes, and explore what it takes to hunt for clues and
solve a crime.
Students will begin by analysing the language used in a prologue inspired by Enola Holmes, which will support them in creating their own compelling detective character. They will examine examples of effective crime writing before crafting their own crime
scenes, learning how to build tension and intrigue.
Along the way, students will discover the importance of carefully placed clues and the use of red herrings to keep the reader guessing. They will also enjoy developing detailed criminal profiles—after all, it’s often the least expected suspect who proves most significant.
Finally, students will explore how to structure interviews and interrogations, leading up to the ultimate “whodunnit” moment, where they reveal the culprit and solve the crime.
