The Level 3 Emergency Outdoor First Aid course is designed for those who work or operate in outdoor, rural or remote environments, where access to emergency medical assistance may be delayed. It is particularly suitable for staff involved in outdoor learning, educational visits, expeditions, sports, leisure activities and site‑based roles, as well as volunteers and community organisations.
This one‑day qualification equips learners with the skills and confidence to manage medical emergencies in outdoor settings, focusing on effective decision‑making, casualty care and scene management when professional help is not immediately available. Training is practical, scenario‑based and delivered by experienced instructors with a strong understanding of outdoor risk and supervision.
Course content includes:
Principles of outdoor first aid and first aid equipment
Scene assessment and casualty monitoring
Summoning assistance and managing incidents in remote locations
Managing an unresponsive casualty
CPR and disorders of respiration
Wounds, bleeding and hypovolaemic shock
The course is Ofqual regulated and meets the Institute for Outdoor Learning (IOL) Band 2 requirements. Successful learners achieve a Level 3 Award in Emergency Outdoor First Aid, valid for three years.
Training is available through open courses with published dates or as bespoke, in‑house delivery, making it ideal for schools, trusts and organisations seeking to train groups involved in outdoor or off‑site activity.
