Self-regulation myth or reality? In this online interactive workshop. Kathryn will explore why self-regulation is an unrealistic goal for many clients drawing on recent neuroscience research on brain development, epigenetics, resolved and unresolved trauma, systems of oppression and how we bring connection practice and nervous system regulation into our practice as speech and language therapists and adapt goal setting accordingly. This talk is relevant to all SLTs working in many client groups but is particularly relevant to those working to support neurodivergent clients, learning disability, SEMH and brain injury.
We are viewing the neuroscience with a speech and language therapy lens, however, this talk is also open to other professionals who work alongside SLTs such as educators, assistants and allied health professionals.
This is a two hour interactive workshop. Participant involvement is expected, although this may be in pairs and small breakout rooms. Due to the interactive nature this workshop will not be recorded.
This workshop aims to hold space for some complex concepts but to link to some simple solutions around human connection and co-regulation.
