Description

Learn how to embed trauma informed practice into your daily work as a SLT.

** Connect to what helps you feel safe so you can hold space for others. **

Trauma informed practice day is time for you to pause and explore what trauma means to you how and how you can support your own nervous system so you can be an effective communication partner to those you work with.

We will look at practical strategies to build into your daily practice and have time to unpack your setting and clients/ pupils in supervision groups.

Trauma Informed Practice in Speech and Language Therapy is a research evidence based whole systems approach that starts with you. Improved attendance, outcomes, job satisfaction and well-being all begin from a place of understanding child development, the impact of adversity on child development and the role of us as Speech and Language Therapists in supporting opportunities for growth and resilience. Systems change takes teamwork, however the most important member of that team is you. On this Trauma Informed Practice Day you will learn the why and how to keep you well and resourced in order to support the emotional, Speech and Language and academic progress of the children in your care. You may already have some knowledge or you may be coming as a complete novice. Either and anything in between is fine. Numbers are limited to keep the group small for the benefit of more enriched learning.

On this practice day you will;

• Take a deep learning dive into the nervous system and how this applies to you, your role and the progress of your clients.

• Learn practical skills and strategies to support yourself and others.

• Have opportunities to discuss clients you are working with through small group supervision sessions

• Benefit from a day of immersion into the topic with two highly qualified and experienced practitioners.

Amelia Brunt is a specialist educator, keynote speaker, trainer and clinical supervisor working within trauma informed practice. Amelia has extensive experience with over 30 years of working across education, social care and mental health services. As Well Educated, Amelia is focussed on supporting people in the helping professions to continue to provide the best of their professional selves in their very demanding roles, through access to psycho and somatic education. Well Educated aims to re-resource, refresh and re-educate professionals enabling consistency and sustainability within practice and within services. Amelia is also a Therapeutic Menopause Coach, recognising that many of the people working in caring professions are women or people assigned female at birth. Our nervous system wellness is very dependent on understanding and respecting our evolutionary biology within the context of the systems we now live and work in.
