Nicky is a contemporary textiles artist, who has 12 years teaching experience, heading up Fashion & Textiles at a School in Kent. She has taught many different specifications from Art & Design Textiles at GCSE and A Level, Design and Technology at GCSE and A Level and BTEC Level 3 Fashion. Her last set of grades were: A Level 100% A-A*; GCSE 70% A-A* (100% A*-B). She has also taught Graphics, Food and Art at KS3.

Nicky previously enjoyed a successful career as a senior director of a fashion print agency in the heart of London. She designed original prints as well as creating and selling seasonal fashion print collections for the international market.

Since 2016 Nicky has been a textile consultant, focusing on developing and leading the delivery of both online and face-to-face workshops for the Textile Skills Centre, including pattern development. Nicky has mentored many graduate trainees and is a volunteer mentor through the TSC mentorship programme.

She has delivered workshops at the Festival of Quilts, Knitting & Stitching show, The Stitch Festival and National trust. Nicky volunteers as an art therapist in her spare time. Her own work is creating arts and craft mostly with a heat press, featuring both machine and hand embroidery. Much of her work incorporates the flora found naturally in our beautiful English countryside.

What other teachers have said about Nicky's workshops:
  • ‘I have taken part in the Textile Skills Centre courses ran by Nicky. They have been instrumental in the design of my course, the resources that are provided along with the course enabled me to create a high-quality scheme of work for my KS4 curriculum and since starting with this course textiles has been the highest performing subject in our academy for 5 years running, without the inspirational, hands on courses and practical resources I’m not sure I would have achieved this.’

  • ‘The creativity of the outcomes in year 11 is massively down to the courses I have done with Textile Skills centre, I would say the courses have had a huge outcome on the standard and creativity of my Year 11's work and already I can see even bigger improvements with Year 10 - they are going to be an amazing year group!’
