With eco-printer and artist FIONA BALDING

Join us for a hands-on, inspiring workshop exploring the magical world of eco-printing – a sustainable fabric printing technique using plants, leaves and natural dyes.

Designed for Textile and Art teachers, this full-day practical session is perfect for those new to teaching GCSE/A Level Art & Design, or anyone looking to refresh and expand their creative toolkit with engaging, eco-friendly ideas.

What you’ll learn and do:
  • Experiment with a range of eco-printing techniques using natural materials

  • Gain confidence using tools, equipment, and methods for classroom use

  • Create vibrant, achievable outcomes that can inspire students at KS3–KS5

  • Explore the science and maths behind dye reactions and print processes

  • Embed sustainability into your teaching through creative, low-impact methods

  • Take your samples through a development and refinement journey to support project-based learning

  • Discover how to foster independence, creativity and critical thinking in your students

Leave with your own printed fabric samples, ready-to-use classroom strategies, and the knowledge to bring this sustainable technique to life in your teaching.

No previous eco-printing experience required – just a willingness to experiment and get creative!

Course Developer and Leader: FIONA BALDING
Fiona-Balding-PHOTO.jpeg

An experienced teacher, Fiona spent 38 years teaching Textiles and Food in secondary schools. Always a passionate print maker she was mesmerised when she discovered Ecoprinting and has worked extensively since 2016, developing her knowledge and understanding of this fascinating process.

One of the most important things that drew her into the craft was its sustainability credentials. Nothing is wasted in the production of these prints. Used plant materials are composted, mordants used in the process are natural garden fertilisers. Preferred textiles used are recycled cotton sheets, vintage linen and even old silk wedding dresses, often purchased in charity shops.

Fiona’s workshops are full on and you will be amazed at what can be achieved in a day!
