Description

Come along to Stitching Kitchen and have fun with fabric and thread while learning the basics of sewing. Whether you're a complete beginner or refreshing your skills, our introductory sewing workshop is designed to build confidence and creativity. Over 10 hours (2 sessions), you'll gain hands-on experience with a sewing machine, create stunning projects to brighten up your home, and leave with the building block skills you need for all beginner and improver sewing projects.


What you will learn/achieve
  • Sewing machine setup: threading, tension and troubleshooting

  • Essential techniques like seams, zips, buttonholes, lining and more

  • Skills to start dressmaking, quilting, or crafting your next project

  • Projects you'll complete: bunting, zip pouch and envelope cushion cover


What's included

Tuition: full instruction and support in a small class (maximum of 6).

Use of our Pfaff machines in Stitching Kitchen's fully equipped studio.

All patterns and instructions are provided via email after each class to practice at home.

Tea and cake.


What to bring

You will need to source materials - a list is provided on booking or you can purchase a kit from us. Saturday workshops also bring a packed lunch.


Please note that this workshop is held in our light and spacious first floor studio at Stitching Kitchen, which is accessible by stairs.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • What do I need?

    For the Learn to Sew workshop you will need some supplies - a reel of all purpose sewing thread, remnants or off cuts of cotton fabric, 4 Fat Quarters of cotton fabric, 2 meters of cotton herringbone tape, 20cm zip, 1 meter of curtain weight fabric, 2 buttons 10mm-20mm.   We do offer a kit, ask us for details.

  • I can use a machine is this course ok for me?

    Yes!  This learn to sew course will help you gain confidence in using your machine and handling materials.  The course includes zips and button holes so a chance to use some of those odd presser feet!
