The Level 4 Certificate in Education and Training is a nationally recognised qualification designed for individuals who are teaching or training, or who aspire to teach, in the further education and skills sector.
It provides the knowledge, understanding and practical skills required to deliver inclusive and effective teaching, whether in a college, workplace, community, or training provider setting.
This qualification is ideal for:
New and aspiring teachers with access to teaching hours.
Trainers and assessors who deliver education and training.
Subject-specialist knowledge in the area you intend to teach.
Access to at least 30 hours of teaching practice during the course (mandatory).
To access funding, learners must be living or working in Wales and able to provide 2 forms of ID
Completion of the Level 3 Award in Education and Training is not required; however, if this has been completed, recognition of prior learning can be used for unit 1.

Planning to Meet the Needs of Learners in Education and Training
Delivering Education and Training
Assessing Learners in Education and Training
Using Resources for Education and Training
Teaching in a Specialist Area
Month 1: Becoming an Outstanding Educator
Build strong foundations as you explore what makes a great teacher, understand the teaching and learning cycle, navigate legislation and regulation, and develop your professional identity. You’ll also learn how to build positive relationships and create inclusive learning spaces.
Month 2: Planning for Every Learner
Discover how to use initial and diagnostic assessment to truly understand your learners. Learn how to plan engaging, learner-centred sessions using Universal Design for Learning and embed essential core themes into your curriculum.
Month 3: Designing Impactful Learning
Master the art of effective planning with schemes of work, lesson plans, and clear aims and objectives. Learn how to use Bloom’s Taxonomy and action verbs to design lessons that challenge and motivate learners.
Month 4: Creating Supportive Learning Environments
Explore how to build safe, supportive, and motivating learning spaces. You’ll examine learning theories, Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs, inclusive teaching practices, and practical strategies for active learning and classroom management
Month 5: Developing High-Quality Learning Resources
Learn how to design professional, accessible, and engaging resources. This includes readability, layout, digital accessibility, and how to use AI ethically and effectively to support resource development.
Month 6: Confident and Effective Assessment
Strengthen your assessment practice by exploring different assessment methods, when to use them, effective questioning techniques, and how to give meaningful feedback that supports learner progress.
Written assignments and reflective journals.
Lesson planning and teaching practice evidence (30 hours).
Observations of teaching (a minimum of three assessed observations).
Self-evaluation and professional development planning.
The course is delivered by monthly live online workshops, supported with online resources.

The CET is typically delivered over 9–12 months.
Successful learners may progress to:
Level 5 Diploma in Education and Training (DET)
Specialist roles in training, quality assurance, or educational leadership
This course is part-funded in partnership with Coleg y Cymoedd. There is a registration and certification cost of £365+VAT per person.
If you are living or working in Wales you are eligible for funding.
If you are not living or working in Wales, the cost of the course is £1299+VAT
You have one year to complete the course.
