Intermediate level
SMHL098 - Supporting Children with Parental Mental Illness in Education.
This intermediate course offers Senior Mental Health Leads the opportunity to understand the needs of children who have a parent with a mental illness and implement strategies to support them.
The course will comprise two modules, with a combination of live streamed training and self-directed learning, giving opportunity for discussion, collaboration, and question.
Delegates will be invited to join our community of practice where they can connect on this topic and exchange best practice.
Our Senior Mental Health Leads training has been quality assured by the Department for Education for delivery to school-based staff in England and is certified by the CPD service.
On completion of this course, learners will be able to:
Understand and articulate the needs of this group and implement strategic approaches to address those needs.
Audit their existing mental health and wellbeing support to identify and address any gaps in provision in relation to this issue.
Engage students in a conversation about adult mental health and mental illness through use of stimulus material to open up the topic.
Influence and support colleagues by raising awareness of this group, reducing stigma by opening up discussion about adult mental health issues.
Implement change at a whole-school level, equipping staff to meet the support needs of this group through the use of specific training and resources.
Work with parents, families and carers to build a collaborative approach to helping these students to get the most from their education.
