Tools & Materials

You will need to supply your own DK yarn & hooks (details below) for your final project.
Hooks: 3.5mm & 4mm.

Choosing the right yarn for your project.

We will be using a DK yarn for this project.

You’ll need at least 3 colours, and 375m per colour. You will need to check the yardage of your chosen yarn. It should be roughly 3x50g balls per colour BUT PLEASE CHECK THE SPECIFIC YARDAGE of your chosen yarn if you are not using any of my suggested yarns. Get in touch if you are not sure.

  1. Natural yarns work best, such as cotton & wool.

  1. As usual, I would avoid very dark colours for learning the techniques.

  1. “Stable” yarns work best – very squishy merinos and silks may not give the desired result.

  1. Avoid silky, shiny, “fancy” or “fashion” yarns which includes fur type yarns or yarns with added “bits” or “textures” as you will struggle to work with it and it will also conceal the stitch texture.

  1. Rule of thumb – if you are in a position to buy extra yarn to be on the safe side, please do!

Here are some suggested yarns. These are just suggestions, you don’t have to get any of these but it will give you an idea of the kind of thing that would work.
