About Mearns History Group
The parish of Mearns is located seven miles south of Glasgow in East Renfrewshire. Mearns History Group was founded in October 1999 to record information about Mearns and to promote our history and heritage in the community. This website has been developed to share the wealth of information which has been collected about Mearns and as new information is received, the collection will be updated. The Group welcomes contributions from anyone who has an interest in Mearns or particular memories or information about the area. If you have additional material which you could share with us or if you notice any errors in the existing content please contact us. Monthly meetings are held from September to April on Tuesday evenings at 7.30pm in Fairweather Hall, Barrhead Road, Newton Mearns, G77 6BB. Guest speakers give illustrated talks on a wide range of subjects and we arrange outings to places of interest, sometimes associated with the talks. There is ample parking in the adjacent shopping centre car park and visitors are always welcome. The subscription is £10 for annual membership and £2 for visitors.
