This course provides the information and skills for learners to understand the use of lifting equipment and how it is applied in a practical setting.

Course Aim

The course aim is to provide a solid base of rigging knowledge to build on with experience and further training.

Course Objectives

  • Explain the legal requirements relating to lifting and lowering operations, and working at height.

  • Explain what is meant by a safe system of work.

  • Identify PFPE equipment, explain its use, perform a pre use check.

  • Explain Rigging safety on stage and overhead.

  • Understand pre-use inspection and other inspection types.

  • Confidently select a piece of rigging equipment and explain its use.

  • Build a truss structure.

  • Understand how to sling and wrap a bar or truss and how load is applied.

  • Be able to demonstrate knot tying and good rope knowledge.

  • Discuss further training and how to stay up to date.

The course begins with law and legislation relating to lifting and working at height in the industry, students will then be introduced to a safe system of work and rigging safely on the stage and overhead. Students are then introduced to commonly used lifting equipment, learn how to perform a pre-use check and how to apply the equipment in a practical real-life scenario.

To achieve certification the students must complete every part of the course and demonstrate to the trainer complete confidence when selecting and using lifting equipment.
