About Iyengar Yoga Institute South London
B.K.S Iyengar (1918-2014) was the world’s most respected yoga teacher. He lived for most of his life in Pune, India where he established the first Iyengar Yoga Institute but he also travelled widely and was instrumental in bringing yoga to the West. He wrote ‘Light on Yoga’ published almost 40 years ago, which remains the definitive guide to the yoga asana (postures). Yoga was traditionally only taught by a guru to a select few pupils but Iyengar firmly believed yoga was for everyone and pioneered yoga teaching for all. To spread the teaching of yoga he created a safe and structured approach to the teaching of yoga asana which has since been established in approximately 40 countries worldwide.
