LOOKING FOR: MG, YA, CROSSOVER, ADULT FICTION
Alice Caprio is a literary agent, working primarily on the children’s list at PFD. After graduating from UAL with an MA in Publishing, she worked for five years as a scout at London Literary Scouting, specialising in children’s, YA and SFF across all ages. During her time as a scout she worked closely with publishers and media companies from all around the world. Before joining PFD in 2026, Alice worked as a literary agent at Felicity Bryan Associates.
Alongside building her own list of clients, Alice sells foreign rights in PFD’s children’s and YA titles in Greece, Hungary, Bulgaria, the Czech Republic, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Romania, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Thailand, Turkey, Ukraine, Vietnam and the Arabic market.
Alice is actively building a list that spans middle grade, YA and crossover fiction across all genres and selective adult fiction in the SFF space.
Her taste skews more commercial than literary, and she loves fiction with a distinctive premise that draws readers in quickly, paired with a layered, thoughtful execution. She is keen to see submissions from writers that have historically been underrepresented in publishing and stories featuring diverse protagonists. More generally, Alice is drawn to books that explore important topics in accessible and authentic ways.
In middle grade, Alice is seeking fantasy in all its forms from epic to whimsical. She loves high-stakes adventures and perilous magical quests, but is equally drawn to stories that uncover small, unexpected magic in everyday places. In the contemporary space, she gravitates toward heartfelt, classic-feeling stories that capture the messy, meaningful moments of growing up with humour and charm. She is also on the lookout for unusual and imaginative high-concept middle grade with a speculative twist. Some of her favourite middle grade authors include Kiran Millwood Hargrave, Michelle Harrison, Jack Meggit Phillips and Elle McNicoll.
In YA, Alice is looking for page-turning fiction with a captivating hook and a strong emotional core. She is particularly fond of genre-mash ups and unique, atmospheric settings that take on the feel of a character. She is very keen to build the romance side of my list and my tastes here are wide-ranging, from epic to slow-burn love stories in realistic, historical or fantastical settings. Alice is particularly eager to find contemporary YA romance featuring relatable and authentic characters by writers from underrepresented backgrounds, something in the vein of Jenny Ireland’s THE FIRST MOVE or Harry Trevaldwyn’s THE ROMANTIC TRAGEDIES OF A DRAMA KING.
When it comes to YA thrillers, she gravitates toward cinematic tales full of glitz and glamour with a high-concept or speculative premise, but also enjoy cosy mysteries with a nostalgic feel. Alice is a fan of dystopias that explore gender, identity and feminist themes, and here she's looking for unique concepts that stand out, such as Moira Buffini’s SONGLIGHT and Kim Liggett’s THE GRACE YEAR. She would also love to see more grounded sci-fi and action-packed romps filled with humour. Some of her favourite YA authors include Krystal Sutherland, Lex Croucher, Dana Schwartz and Bea Fitzgerald.
On the fantasy side, Alice is on the lookout for all kinds of stories, from epic to grounded, in the YA, crossover and adult space. She is interested in stories that combine wide commercial appeal with a unique concept, rich world-building and writing that feels escapist. As an avid reader of the genre, she's always keen to find her next romantasy fix and is particularly looking for distinctive voices and addictive, page-turning narratives with characters that stay with you long after you’ve finished reading. Some of her all-time favourite romantic fantasies are YA – Holly Black’s CRUEL PRINCE, Stephanie Garber’s CARAVAL and Victoria Aveyard’s RED QUEEN – and she would love to find something that sits squarely in that space. Alice has a soft spot for courtly intrigue, hard magic systems, high-stake life-or-death competitions and outcast heroes. She enjoys a good trope, especially when explored creatively! She is also interested in original retellings and fantasy steeped in lesser-known cultures and mythologies. On the darker side, she’d love to find something in the horror-romance or necromantasy space. When it comes to grounded fantasy, Alice enjoys books about books and cosy fantasy set in realistic settings featuring witches, vampires and other magical creatures. Books she has loved in recent years include AY Chao’s SHANGHAI IMMORTAL, Hannah Kaner’s GODKILLER, Gareth Brown’s BOOK OF DOORS, Kristen Ciccarelli’s CRIMSON MOTH and Allison Saft’s A FAR WILDER MAGIC. She is also open to working with authors who have previously self-published, particularly if they have a TikTok or online presence.
Alice would like you to submit a covering letter, a one-page synopsis and the first three chapters (Max 5,000 words) of your manuscript in a single word document.
