About Houston Farm Riding School
Mr & Mrs Comrie originally worked with pigs at Houston. However as a result of the UK joining the common market with the good possibility of pig prices falling, as a result they decided to diversify.Having show jumped for over 20 years they decided to start a Riding School and become full time teachers.3 ponies were bought at Kelso horse sales on 14th October 1972 and Houston Farm Riding School opened on 15th October 1972, having gained permission for change of use and a license to run the school from the council. On 15th October we had the son and daughter of the local Grocer and 3 other girls from Uphall. By the end of the first week we had over 20 pupils and by mid December we bought 3 more ponies. We have extended and expanded from there and now have 54 equines (ponies & horses). We now teach every day of the week with a lighter work day on Thursdays.Houston is approved by the ABRS.We regularly teach clients from the Lothians, the Borders, Edinburgh, Glasgow & Lanarkshire.Over the years we have also taught many clients from various countries around the world including America, Canada, Australia, Hong Kong, Germany, France.Scottish & British Champions are amongst the pupils we have taught over the years
