This fascinating wine tasting evening will focus on the classic wine region of the Rhone Valley in France and the stunning Syrah grape (aka Shiraz in Oz). The evening will cover an overview of all the different appellations and an explanation of the different styles of wine produced. We will share our findings about current winemaking practices, marketing and tourism, and bring you right up to date with this dynamic and exciting wine region.
This will be a tour through some of France's most well-loved region, the Rhone Valley, with a special hello to superb Chateauneuf-du-Pape. We will explore the elegant, aromatic and full-bodied whites of the Southern Rhone Valley. You will discover exactly what it is that makes these wines so special and learn how to pick up a bargain or two. But let's face it, the Rhone is first and foremost home to the wonderful warm & spicy reds produced from Syrah such as Cote-Rotie, Hermitage and Crozes-Hermitage and Syrah/Grenache/Mourvedre blends such as Chateauneuf-du-Pape, Vacqueyras and Cotes du Rhone.
However, the New World is coming strong and from California to Australia, everyone loves a Rhone Valley blend ... but renamed either "Rhone Rangers" or "SGM", those fruity and complex red blends made out of Shiraz, Grenache and Mourvedre are simply divine! We will travel to the US, OZ, Chile and Argentina to find out why this particular blend is so loved, the world over.
Let's find out together about the RHONE VALLEY and what the NEW WORLD has to offer in comparison ... surprises guaranteed! ;-)
