About Glasgow East Women's Aid

GEWA banner Glasgow East Women’s Aid (GEWA) was originally established as Greater Easterhouse Women’s Aid in 1993 as part of Glasgow Women’s Aid. In 1995 the organisation became autonomous, operating as a community-based collective with charitable status. We evolved further in 2008 to become Glasgow East Women’s Aid and in 2010 we changed our legal form to operate as a Company Limited by Guarantee with charitable status. We are also affiliated to Scottish Women’s Aid and adhere to the national Code of Practice and Service Provision. In 2008 we also moved to new premises offering accessible facilities with a dedicated training area to develop a range of programmes and events for service users, organisations, and the local community. We believe these changes demonstrate our ability to consistently move forward in response to the changing operating environment while continuing to provide the best service we can to women, children, and young people. The provision of this service has been funded from a variety of sources over the past 28 years including local and national funding through agencies and grants from charitable trusts. This strategy has ensured that we continue to operate providing support, refuge, and counselling to service users and training to agencies and individuals.
