Learn how to code with the Python programming language
Coding is a skill that is useful in a wide variety of contexts. We use code to work with data, to create animations, to make web apps, to control environmental systems, etc. Learning to code will also help to develop problem solving skills and, maybe, better maths skills. Code is a form of communication and so this skill can also be enhanced.
Over a period of 30 hours you will learn how to:
store data in 'variables' in a computer's memory
use operators to manipulate data of various types (join text strings, calculate values, etc)
use selection for decision making in an app
use repetition to allow lists of data to be processed, or to allow multiple attempts at entering a password or other value
write functions to divide a task up into smaller, more understandable chunks
process lists of data and data records
test your code
complete a small real-life project using the skills you have gained (the project will be introduced at the start of the course and you will learn how to write code to make it work)
This course is aimed at beginners and is part-time over 5 weeks. The course times are designed to work around school / work / family commitments. All learning materials and software are online so that you don't have to install or set up anything in order to take part.
You will need access to a computer (a laptop or a desktop computer is best) and an internet connection.
Most of the systems we use allow a log in with a Google account. It is useful (although not compulsory) to have a gmail address.
futureCoders SE is a not for profit, coding experience academy. We provide training in coding (Python, HTML/CSS, Javascript frameworks, and a range of work experience opportunities...
