Fire detection in domestic properties isn’t a scaled-down version of non-domestic systems - it’s different.
BS 5839-6 has its own requirements, approaches, and design considerations, particularly around system grades, categories, and risk profiles within dwellings.
This practical course gives you the knowledge and confidence to design, install and commission compliant fire detection and fire alarm systems within domestic properties, in accordance with BS 5839-6.
Course description
This course provides a practical understanding of the design, installation, and commissioning of fire detection and alarm systems in domestic properties, in line with BS 5839-6 and relevant codes of practice.
A key focus is the selection and application of Grade A, C, and D systems, and how these relate to different property types and risk levels.
You’ll develop the knowledge needed to make informed decisions when working within domestic environments, ensuring systems are appropriate, compliant, and effective.

For certain qualifications, including the RQF Level 3 Award in the Requirements of Fire Detection & Fire Alarm Systems for Domestic Buildings (BS 5839-6), learners must have already passed the RQF Level 3 Award in the Requirements of Fire Detection & Fire Alarm Systems for Non-Domestic Buildings (BS 5839-1) before they are eligible to sit the RQF assessment.

Learners who successfully complete the assessment will receive the RQF qualification detailed on the course page.
