A practical, playful half-day for facilitators, coaches and leaders
Icebreakers are often misunderstood. They’re not just something you do at the start of a session — they’re a powerful way to shape energy, build connection, reduce tension, and create the conditions for meaningful work. Icebreakers impact the relational space!
This in-person, half-day training is designed for facilitators, coaches, leaders and practitioners who want to use icebreakers (and related activities) with more consciousness, confidence, and with choice
Co-hosted by Carmen Geil and Nairy McMahon, this session goes beyond a list of activities. Instead, we’ll explore how and why to choose the right icebreaker, the impact that has on the field (the room and the impact on your participants) — and how to deliver in a way that feels natural, purposeful and aligned with not only who you are as a facilitator, but what is needed for the session.
What we’ll explore together
The difference between icebreakers, energisers, warm-ups, tension reducers and games — and when to use each
How to choose activities based on energy, feeling, context and need, not habit or pressure
Facilitating from authenticity: what works for you, what you enjoy, and why that matters - and how to find alignment if its different to what is needed in the room
When to plan ahead and when to improvise in the moment - and how to center yourself to the emergence
Practical considerations:
time available, group size, seating, intention, mood, movement, creativity, intimacy, laughter, remote vs in-person
Simple rules for teaching and facilitating activities (pace, tone, clarity, and confidence) - and most importantly context!
Learning by doing: small groups will practise, adapt and teach activities to one another
Sharing favourites and insights — including a brief constellation to explore how we relate to icebreakers as a system
A clearer framework for choosing and using icebreakers intentionally
Increased confidence and consciousness to facilitate in a way that feels true to you and has the impact needed in the room
A practical set of adaptable activities you can use immediately
Fresh ideas, renewed energy, and a deeper understanding of how groups learn through experience
This will be a joyful, practical and engaging afternoon, grounded in ORSC principles and rich with experimentation, reflection and connection.
