Art Craft Yoga - A Combined Life Drawing & Yoga Workshop

If like us, you find yourself having to choose between being healthy or creative, then this workshop is the perfect option for you. You'll enjoy a combination of relaxation, stretching, and the opportunity to artistically express yourself all at the same time. Not only that, but it's also something fun and different to enjoy with friends and like-minded people. Life drawing and yoga go hand in hand as they are both therapeutic and tranquil. As you focus on the movements and techniques, that both life drawing and yoga provide, you leave your troubles behind. In this combined workshop you will: - Relax and stretch in a calm creative environment, whilst fellow guests observe the interesting shapes yoga can provide. - Draw from observation of a live yoga model (your fellow guests) using yoga shapes to help you. It's all about shorter drawings and overcoming the 'fear of the blank page'! - Feel refreshed, creative, and be able to take home a series of beautiful drawings. No yoga or creative skills are needed, our friendly hosts will guide you step-by-step through the experience with demonstrations and examples and adapt to suit your personal needs.  We will supply everything you need including a matt. But if you want to bring your own you can. Please wear comfortable clothes. How will it work?  For half the class you will be a yogi and for the other half of the class you will be an artist Everyone in the class will be modelling and drawing each other. On arrival you can decide whether you want to be the yogi or the artist first but either way you are going to experience both.  Yoga: We've designed simple yoga poses most people can achieve and are perfect for drawing. Yogi Annie will take you through a series of stretching exercises for 35mins. She will demonstrate each pose, give you plenty of rest between movements and adapt the pose to suit your needs.  Life drawing: You’ll be taken on a journey of drawing exercises with artist Klara. Whilst drawing the yogi models, for 35mins we will explore different tools such as pencil or charcoal and drawing techniques such as continuous line and blind drawing. These contemporary drawing exercises are perfect for beginners and accomplished artists we are here to support you with examples and demonstrations but you'll have creative freedom so you can be as abstract or as detailed as you like. At the end of the class, we will do some constructive rest and exhibit our drawings and you’ll leave relaxed and stretched and feel creative & healthy and display your drawing at home.  Supporting you on your journey: Artist Klara revived her love of interpreting the human form 5 years ago, through the respected Dulwich Art Group. Over the last year she has taken on her first couple of commissions, and enjoys being part of the lively Instagram artist community as @the.pomegranate.art Yogi Annie has been practicing yoga for 10yrs. She gained her training for Vinyasa Flow in 2018 and has since furthered her teaching skills with Yin Yoga and Yoga Nidra. Her own practice is with other teachers including Restorative & Iyengar which help with her teaching skills.

A personalized 1-1 session of Shamanic Yoga is a session of healing of the body according to the blockages and limitations that appear to your eyes, which give us the key to solve in a marvellous way what your soul needs. This yoga is suitable to everyone and it is very easy and creative.  SHAMANIC YOGA  is ancestral, ancient, pre-vedic. It has the element of ecstasy, of a non ordinary state of consciousness, where you work with nature, animals, yantras, mantras, mudras, rituals, initiations in the imaginal forest, in the natural code, non the social code. Merceliade says that this yoga is the oldest form of yoga and we find it in various traditions: Hindu tradition (Shaktism), Himalayan (Naropa, Milarepa etc), South America (Andean yoga), Siberia, Mongolia, Japan (Yamabushi), Taoism, Alchemy. Shamanic yoga is not an exercise of the body, but a mystical, esoteric and initiatory healing practice that is distinguished by two characteristics; the first is ecstasy, the ability to communicate with the invisible, regaining the state of non-duality that is the typical goal of the yogin’s path. Ecstasy is not achieved by hypnosis or drugs or external means, but by means of instruments such as the drum, the breath and is not the trance of the medium. The shaman does not speak through the voice of spirits but draws knowledge directly from them. The second characteristic is the ability to bring back through narration or storytelling what has been grasped in the invisible worlds, during the shamanic journey, and to convince the matter to transform into reality what is told. Karen Lawrence holds a Yoga Alliance recognised specialist qualification as a Yin and Restorative Yoga Instructor. She has also completed full training recognised by the Federation of Antenatal Educators which qualifies her to teach Pregnancy, Postnatal and Mother and Baby Yoga. Karen is a qualified professional Reflexologist, specialising in holistic therapy for pregnancy, menopause and women’s health. She has completed accredited training in Closing the Bones and Postnatal Recovery Massage. Karen holds a qualification in Aromatherapy for Birth. She has trained with MAM as a Three Step Rewind practitioner. She is a qualified Baby Massage instructor and a trained sound therapist. Karen is a Registered Midwife and Specialist Community Public Health Nurse (Health Visitor), although she is no longer actively working in these roles. She is currently working part time as a registered health professional in the Covid 19 vaccinations programme. Karen believes in a gentle, holistic and compassionate approach to yoga, parenting and life in general. Yoga and meditation have helped her cope with some of the challenges of being a midwife, a health visitor, a mother and simply a human being. Karen loves to care for carers. Karen has a daughter with special needs. She knows all about the pressures of caring for others, both personally and professionally. Karen understands how important it is for carers to be able to rest and relax. Many people with heavy caring responsibilities come to The Calm Space for rest, empathy and relaxation.

After a four year degree studying French, German and Spanish - I decided the obvious thing to do next was teach English in Japan! Random - but I’m so thankful I made this decision: because it was my introduction to teaching and set me on the path as an educator. 3 years later, I trained as a yoga teacher in Scotland, before moving to Cornwall and deciding I wanted to be a Primary School Teacher. I wanted to share with kids so much about life and the world! Teaching was, admittedly, harder than expected. I loved elements but hated others. I’d always prioritised my health and wellbeing - but I found myself becoming stressed like I’d never experienced before. I know now that if I’d have continued to prioritise my own wellbeing, not only would teaching have been easier - but the children would have also benefited so much more. This is one of the key reasons Class Yoga is here: to raise the wellbeing of educators, so that the pupils benefit in turn. (Listen to more on this, here.) I believe we need to look after our own wellbeing to raise the wellbeing of our pupils I started to share yoga when I could. I got to see what worked and what didn’t; and I got a glimpse of some promising results. But when I left full-time teaching and started supply (and sharing more yoga) I started getting called back - to teach yoga! Because now the clear evidence, of greater calm and focus in children in the classroom after yoga, was shining out! So began my calling to teach yoga to more children, in more schools. Over this time, I developed and refined my method of teaching mindful movement to children, that I still teach and train others in, today.
