The Missing Links – Affect Bridge, Molar Memories and Sub-threshold Trauma

By Human Givens College

Essential CPD to deepen your understanding and develop your skills as a therapist CPD Certificate: 3 hours Length: 9.45am – 1.00pm (GMT) LIMITED PLACES – Feb date now full Join Ros Townsend live online on Tuesday 8th October 2024 for this important CPD course, designed specifically for mental health professionals interested in the human givens approach. BONUS – you will get a recording for 2 weeks afterwards to maximise your learning. There are many occasions when a client presents with an excessive emotional response and it is not immediately apparent why this is happening. Perhaps they know that they are ‘over-reacting’ in some way – getting very angry, very fearful – or are experiencing a driven urge to take a particular action – such as eating or having sex. This live online course will help you gain confidence in working safely and ethically with affect bridges to discover if an unhelpful pattern, in the form of a molar memory or sub-threshold trauma is at the root of their experience, allowing you to then determine collaboratively with your client the best ways of addressing that. During the course, there will be plenty of opportunity to ask questions of the tutor, and to engage in exercises and discussions with your peers and colleagues. Why take this course Whether you are a new HG therapist wanting to develop a clear understanding of how to utilise an affect bridge to determine if a molar memory or sub-threshold trauma is present, and to better understand the protocols for working with these, or whether you are an experienced HG practitioner looking to refresh your knowledge and delve deeper into understanding this valuable skillset, this course will help you gain the skills and understanding you need to do so safely and effectively. In an early article regarding molar memories, Joe Griffin termed them ‘an ancient mechanism that is ruining lives’; and the impact of such driven urges on the lives of our clients cannot be underestimated. Molar memories can, on first encountering the theory, seem complicated and unfathomable, but this course will set them – and sub-threshold traumas and the use of the affect bridge to access both – within a clear framework of understanding, linking back to the way in which our brain perceives things (referencing the APET model) and to RIGAAR (how we structure a good therapy session). During the course, numerous case studies will be shared and used as the basis for exercises, and there will be ample opportunity to link the learning to your own experiences in the therapy room. You will gain a clear understanding of: how to follow the treatment protocols for working with molar memories and sub-threshold traumas – adapting these, of course, to each client’s unique model of reality; how to safely and ethically utilise an affect bridge; and how to avoid the danger of creating any false memories. Ros is a brilliant teacher and presenter. She made the whole course interesting, engaging and informative as well as very supportive. She was also very patient with all our questions!GEMMA ROGERS, COUNSELLOR/COACH What the training covers: How APET and RIGAAR relate to one another Why an understanding of APET is essential when working with affect bridge What an affect bridge is How to use affect bridge safely and ethically within your therapy sessions How to avoid the risk of creating false memories Why we must proceed with caution when undertaking affect bridges when working online The difference (in this context) between ‘positive’ and ‘negative’ The tell-tale patterns of a sub-threshold trauma and a molar memory being present A framework to understand the presentations of both sub-threshold traumas and molar memories How to identify a sub-threshold trauma An understanding of the treatment protocol for sub-threshold traumas How to identify a molar memory An understanding of the treatment protocol for molar memories Why molar memories sometimes present differently in complex trauma How to use the understanding of APET and help clients to utilise affect bridge as a positive tool within their lives Who is this course suitable for? This course is designed for both trainee and fully-qualified HG therapists It is also suitable for any mental health professionals interested in the human givens approach It is recommended to all HG practitioners by the Human Givens Institute (HGI) Timings 9.45 am – Join Zoom 10.00 am – Course session starts 1.00 pm – Course ends In any online training it’s important to build in regular breaks and ensure that every 20 minutes there is a shift in focus of attention to pull the eyes away from the screen. There will be two 10–15 minute comfort breaks during the training and regular opportunities for discussion and exercises in break-out rooms. Meet your tutor Rosalind Townsend Ros Townsend is an experienced psychotherapist and supervisor with busy practices in SW England, where she combines private therapy work with referrals from Occupational Health and the NHS. MAP – MAKING AN ACTION PLAN WITH PERSON CENTRED PROCESSES

By Inclusive Solutions

To facilitate a group, family, team or organisation in thinking together around a given challenge or issue here is an opportunity to experience for real the person centred, futures planning tool – MAP (Pearpoint, Forest et. al. 1989). This is a process not a training day. Let us facilitate your planning and refocus your story whilst strengthening you and your group. This tool uses both process and graphic facilitation to help any group develop a shared vision and then to make a start on working out what they will need to do together to move towards that vision. MAPS are great for threshold moments. Is your team stuck? Want to move on, haunted by the past cannot get any useful dialogue about the future? Facing a challenging transition into a new school or setting? Leaving school? Bored with annual reviews, transition plans and review meetings? Want to find a way of making meetings and planning feel more real and engaging? Need an approach, which engages a young person respectfully together with his or her family and friends? Want the ultimate visual record of the process of a meeting, which will help everyone, keep track? Want to problem solve and plan for the future of a small or large group, service or organisation up to the size of an LEA Learning Objectives To create a shared vision To talk through the story so far and reflect upon it To name the worse nightmares that will block progress To strengthen the group by focussing on gifts and capacity To detail needs To specify an Action Plan To create a visual graphic record of the whole event Course Content The MAP process has 6 Steps: The story so far. The group is required to think back over the years to describe their collective experience of changes and events over time within their settings. Stories and events are recorded on the graphic. Building Shared Dreams. The group thinks together about what they would love to see happening for children, families and practitioners in their settings if they could have it all. If there were no constraints on time, money, resources, people or anything else what do they see happening in their imaginations? The various ideas that the group comes up with are then recorded in key words, images and colours on the MAP graphic. The purpose of this Step is to give the group a sense of direction, their North Star, an image of the place they want to work towards. Nightmare. In this Step, the group imagines the worst scenarios. What is the opposite of their dreams? How bad could it get? This is a shorter but powerful process that can give some groups more energy than dreaming together. Gifts and Capacity. In this Step the group is asked to take explicit stock of their capacities and what they already have going for them as they begin working towards the vision. This is a strong reminder for any group of the wealth of knowledge and experience that is already and always in the room. Needs. In this Step the group is invited to begin to name some of the needs they will have if they are to move forward to wards the dream and away from the nightmare. Actions. This is the final Step in the MAP and calls for individuals within the group to name a range of very specific actions (however small) that they will take within a definite time scale. This is not a time for declaring good intentions or suggesting good ideas for someone else to do. The purpose of this Step is to end the MAP process with a range of clearly understood actions that carry this planning process forward into the real world.

By Elearncollege

Description Baby and Toddler Sleep Solutions Diploma:  You must have had a family member or a friend come to you for guidance or advice on how to help they're young get better sleep. There is a method for serving individuals who need professional counsel and guidance while earning a living. It is not only the people with babies and their young kids who will get better sleep; the whole community will. You can sign up for our Baby and Toddler Sleep Solutions Diploma course and pursue an exciting profession while fulfilling your passion for helping toddlers and babies get better sleep. The profession called Sleep Consultant for babies resulted from a massive demand for professionals who can provide support at home for toddlers, babies, and young children who cannot sleep well. Parenting gets harder at night, and the frustration and exhaustion can begin to affect daytime parenting that one may enjoy. The situation becomes increasingly difficult when no family members live nearby who can offer assistance. Many parents re-join their workplaces as their babies get a little older, and at this stage, there is a need to take some measures to help every family member get better and more hours of sleep. The manageable threshold lowers as a challenging job gets added to the mix. The Baby and Toddler Sleep Solutions Diploma course by Elearncollege has been designed to provide all parents support and guidance. Sleep is essential for our well-being. It will do immense good for children if they have a healthy schedule for rest as they live and grow. Disturbance in our night's sleep causes difficulty having a good night's sleep, even for adults. It leads to tiredness, irritability, and annoyance for the rest of the next day. Sleep training often takes a little bit of time to get used to. It requires us to put in the effort, time, and patience, but it gradually becomes more effortless. There are several methods of sleep training for you to try out, and pick out the best that suits your parenting style. Routine is essential to sleep well. Babies and young children thrive when they are made to follow patterns and anything familiar to them. Because of this, a child may sleep every night by using particular locations, favourite toys, or music. What you will learn   1:The basics of sleep  2:Personality and parenting style  3:Sleep patterns in babies from birth to a year old  4:Sleep patterns in infants from a year to 3 years old  5:Cosleeping and how to handle multiple children during sleep  6:Understanding how other caregivers from outside affect sleep  7:Sleep tips for premature babies  8:Illnesses and its effects on sleep  9:Life changes that keep a child awake  10:Bedtime stories and songs  Course Outcomes After completing the course, you will receive a diploma certificate and an academic transcript from Elearn college. ‘Yes’ is to accept an ‘offer’. ‘And’ is to build on that offer. ‘Yes’ is to agree to be on a threshold. ‘And’ is to step over that threshold and offer, receive or discover new information. When we improvisers say ‘Yes, And’ to an offer, we allow for divergent (aka ‘blue-sky’) and creative thinking that follows the points of interest and engagement in a conversation, rather than following a pre-written agenda. It also makes sure – because we always accept the ‘Yes’ and specifically build on that ‘Yes’ with our ‘And’ – that everyone remains on track and on topic, without any wild or left-field or non-relevant additions. It also means there are no denials or blocks and, equally, there are no wildly disparate or ‘out there’ suggestions. So by creating an environment without blocks, wild tangents or stagnant thinking, ‘Yes, And’ keeps a group on topic, imaginative and in flow. Improvisers acknowledge that many people (ourselves included), prefer to say ‘No’ or ‘Yes, But’. Saying ‘No’ makes humans feel more in control and safe. “Shall we try this new thing?” “No!” (I’m busy, it’s untested, there’s good reasons not to – and essentially, it feels safer to say “No”). Saying ‘Yes, But’ makes humans feel more in control and safe – and sometimes a bit cleverer. “Shall we try this new thing?” “Yes, But… Before we do, I can see and will now list a number of clever reasons why it might not work.” (I’m in control of my fear and the possibility of the unknown. I sound open to it but essentially, I might not like it, so it feels safer to say “No”). However, we are programmed, as humans, to keep ourselves safe. So we can afford to go with the flow a bit more often and to work our ‘accept and build’ muscles. When we get in the habit of saying ‘Yes, And’, it guarantees more focused, meaningful conversations, clearer routes to creativity, better teamwork. It puts more options on the table. Even better, it encourages imaginative connections instead of competitions involving egos. It’s good for rapport. It means we think fast and shiny. It’s the clearest route to pure play. And play is key. Play where we imagine, invent, create, and solve. Play is how and where we humans human to our best potential.
