Prendergast School

prendergast school

London,

Welcome to Prendergast School. It is an honour and a privilege to be Prendergast School’s eleventh Headteacher and to work with staff, students and families. Staff here are passionate about ensuring the very best opportunities and education for all students. Our motto and ethos is ‘Truth, Honour, Freedom and Courtesy.’ We are all on the same side, working to support all students to excel. We take pride in building strong relationships with students and their families. We have a long history of providing exceptional education to young people. We were founded in 1880 as Prendergast Grammar School for Girls on a site in Catford provided by the Leathersellers’ Company, which then funded the school’s move to its current site in 1995. We are now part of the Leathersellers’ Federation of schools, a group of three secondary and two primary schools as well as Prendergast 6th Form. We are very fortunate to be part of the Federation and receive a lot of support from the Leathersellers’ Company, that helps our students succeed. We are very proud of our last Ofsted judgement of Outstanding in all areas, our third Outstanding judgement in a row. We are described in the most recent report as ‘exceptional’ and having ‘exemplary attitudes to learning’ across the school. We do achieve great academic results at Prendergast School (more information is on the website). However, as a parent or carer you also want to know that your child is happy and safe. This is very important to us and we pride ourselves that students feel confident in school and thrive under our care. It is important that when students leave after their time with us that they do so as well-rounded individuals who have had many different experiences, able to overcome challenges and most importantly to learn from their mistakes. It is important that students get involved in school life as much as possible. We have a wide range of extra-curricular activities and we do encourage all students to get involved. We expect all students to attend school journeys. Communication is very important to us. We always like to know what we do well and what we can improve on further. We ask students and families to get in contact with us if there is something that they would like to ask or raise with us.

Homefield College

Loughborough

I am fortunate enough to be the Principal of Homefield College and am delighted that you have found your way to our website to explore the many opportunities that the College provides to support people with learning difficulties and / or disabilities to lead fulfilling lives. Homefield College was founded in 1987 as a long-term residential provision for people with learning and communication difficulties. We have since expanded our offering with specialist further education and training, supporting both part-time and full-time day and residential students. The College now offers a range of individualised vocational education programmes based within local communities. All programmes are tailored to the needs of each individual with the starting point being that they feel safe in the environment that they are in. Once this is achieved it allows our staff to work with them to develop and improve their skills to enable them to live more independently once they leave the College. You will see on the website details of the activities that we provide which put together make up a study programme. Our education provision is based upon our belief that young people achieve through experience and this is reflected in the activities provided in our programmes. Students will undertake work experience and we hope that for some of them this will lead to a supported internship. Beyond the education provision, we also offer residential experiences for those who would like to further develop their independent living skills and this can often provide a period of respite for the student’s family. Homefield also provides a range of services for those who remain as part of our lifelong learning provision. These include: long-term residential care, supported work experiences, day services and community enterprises. If you would like to find out more as to how we can support and work with people with a learning difficulty and / or disability and with their families please do not hesitate to get in touch with us.

Durham Johnston Comprehensive School

durham johnston comprehensive school

Durham

We are a happy and thriving school in the heart of Durham City. We believe that each word in our school name is hugely important and is linked directly to our ethos and values, and what we seek to do on a daily basis. We are proud to serve the people of County Durham and our students are drawn from a wide geographical area. We take our name from James Finley Weir Johnston, a successful scientist who bequeathed money so that both boys and girls from Durham could access a high-quality education. We have been providing a rich and varied academic curriculum since 1901 and are proud to have a long and distinguished history. Subject specific knowledge and an awareness of Britain and the wider world are hugely important as students develop and learn. The quality of education that we offer is comprehensive in terms of both breadth and scope. We are also a comprehensive school in terms of the wide variety of backgrounds and circumstances that members of our school community come from. Increasingly, our students are drawn from a wide variety of nations and continents too. That diversity is one of our greatest strengths Our staff are highly experienced and combine subject specialism with a commitment to pastoral care and student support. All students have equal access to a well-planned curriculum, a wide range of opportunities for personal development and the chance to learn from the others within our school community. We believe firmly in social justice and equality of opportunity for all; when students cross our threshold each morning, they have access to the same opportunities. As a school we believe in education in its widest sense; students can learn a huge amount both in and beyond the classroom, and, of equal importance, by interacting and working with others. The personal development of each student is key to their future success, and we offer a diverse range of extracurricular opportunities, as well as encouraging participation in public service, particularly through our well established House System. In their time with us we want all of our students to make excellent academic progress based upon their starting points, to acquire knowledge, to access opportunities regardless of previous experiences or circumstance, to support others within and beyond our community and to leave us for further success as adults. We are a big and busy comprehensive school, and all teaching and support staff are united in wanting the best for our students. We work hard, and look for ways to adapt, improve, and create new opportunities for our young people. We don’t always get things right and sometimes encounter issues and circumstances for which there aren't easy solutions, but we are honest about that and seek to work closely with parents and carers. We want all students to enjoy their time with us, to be successful and to look back on their time at Durham Johnston Comprehensive School positively.

Stoke Park School

stoke park school

4JW,

Stoke Park School was established in 1919 as a grammar school and although it has changed considerably in the last 100 years, our high expectations and academic curriculum remains the same. Through providing a quality education, alongside a range of exceptional experiences, our central aim is to enable all of our students to Build Brighter Futures. We recently celebrated our best ever GCSE and A level results and to this end, we are committed firmly to the pursuit of academic development at the highest level amongst our students. We unashamedly celebrate academic accomplishment, and we seek to nurture clear thinking and scholarly curiosity. We are committed to improving the life chances of all our students and we want to remove any barriers in order for our students to flourish academically. That said, we place a high emphasis on getting to know our students and ensuring they feel happy and well supported throughout their time with us. We foster a sense of belonging within school and the wider community. We welcome students into The Bridge, a custom designed area just for them, with both social and teaching spaces and a specialist team of teachers who are experts in transition from primary and Year 7 learning and progress. The Bridge offers very high academic expectations with Latin and Classics being part of the curriculum. Students have a personalised timetable, and the curriculum is carefully crafted to ensure breadth and depth. Additional small group lessons are offered so that every student can make rapid progress. Parents can find out more about The Bridge here. Our teachers are passionate about their subjects and have a rigorous in-depth knowledge of the curriculum. They are caring and driven, and they work incredibly hard to ensure all our students are successful at each stage of their seven year journey which culminates in Post 16, our popular sixth form. A bespoke Post-16 block awaits our students and offers a highly academic and enriching experience with links to the top universities. We aim to nurture student attributes such as confidence, resilience and perseverance – qualities that will equip them to thrive at school, at university and beyond, whatever the storms of life may throw at them. This is achieved partly through our bespoke tutoring programme and carefully structured pastoral teams, and partly through our expectation that all students participate fully in the life of the School. We have an exciting, diverse range of extra-curricular activities through which every student can pursue their interests and stretch themselves as they learn new skills and talents. Sport, Music, Drama and other co-curricular activities all play a major role in our school life and offer opportunities for everyone. These activities develop excellence, educate pupils to be open minded, independent and willing to take risks. Stoke Park is a remarkable school for remarkable students. I look forward to welcoming you.

Hull Business Training Centre Limited

hull business training centre limited

HBTC (Hull Business Training Centre) was founded by Judith Dolman-Williams and Margaret Wingfield in 1994. At this time the world was a very different place. The use of mobile phones was extremely rare. The internet had been created but not many people had heard of it. A small band called Oasis released their debut album. The TV show ‘Friends’ first aired and Forrest Gump was the top grossing film of the year. Initially HBTC was based out of small office on Coelus Street, Hull. We carried out training for employers on our premises, across Hull and the East Riding. Within just a couple of months, the office on Coelus Street proved to be too small, as the business grew rapidly. So we relocated to an office block within Chamberlain Business Centre on Chamberlain Road, Hull. Initially we rented just a couple of rooms in this large block. But HBTC went from strength to strength, and added further rooms to our lease, as other businesses moved out. By the late 1990s, HBTC proudly occupied the full block. We secured our first apprenticeship training contract in 1996. Which has become the main focus of the business. The main areas were, and still remain, business, IT and teaching. In late 2001, an exciting opportunity arose to expand our already successful Job Centre Plus contract. This saw HBTC move our unemployed provision to the city centre. We decided to move all of our operations to one location on Spyvee Street at the end of 2004. In more recent years we have expanded our provision to the south of the Humber. Opening our Grimsby office in 2011 and our Scunthorpe office in 2013. Enabling us to cover Hull and East Yorkshire, Northern Lincolnshire and North East Lincolnshire. In 2015 we moved to the city centre at Charlotte Street Mews. Where we are still currently located. Not far from the New Theatre and Queens Gardens. In the old Citizens Advice building. We have moved with the times as the business landscape has evolved due to the impact of technological and digital advancements. But the core emphasis on what we offer has remained the same. The offer now includes apprenticeships, online courses and work-based learning opportunities across a range of sectors, including team leading, digital and customer service. HBTC are an Ofsted rated ‘Good’ training provider. Ofsted is the Office for Standards in Education, Children’s Services and Skills. They inspect services providing education and skills for learners of all ages. HBTC also hold the Matrix Standard, which is the international quality standard for organisations that deliver information, advice and/or guidance (IAG). At lot has changed since 1994, but our original HBTC Mission Statement still remains. “Committed to providing the opportunity for everyone to develop, in a caring and nurturing learning environment, through a highly trained and motivated workforce.”
