Conscious Inclusion (2025 Autumn)

5.0(1)

By The Diocese of St Albans

When our churches are welcoming and hospitable places for people of all backgrounds, we become more truly the Body of Christ. When we draw on everyone’s gifts, we become more effective in shared mission and ministry. However, we all have biases which come from our experiences, culture and the media. These influence how we make judgements and assessments of people. This course seeks to encourage everyone who has a leadership role in our churches — whether lay or ordained — to think about how we might become more diverse and inclusive, and how we might release everyone's gifts. Registration and refreshments from 9.30am, for a prompt 10am start.

Located in the heart of London, Hermeneia exists to train Christians in their knowledge, understanding, study, and application of the Bible for their own spiritual maturity and for faithful ministry in the local church. This training includes equipping men for faithfulness in expository preaching as they learn how to prepare and deliver sermons. Our desire is to see the church in the U.K. strengthened as more Christians grow in their understanding and love for God's word. Read the Bible in 10 months and attend in-person lectures. Hermeneia’s Bible Survey course will help students begin to understand the Bible in its original context and, thus, be able to apply the Bible more accurately today.

Leading your Church into Growth (LyCiG)

By The Diocese of St Albans

Join us for our Diocesan Leading your Church into Growth Conference from 6pm on Friday 27th September until 2pm on Sunday 29th September 2024, at High Leigh Conference Centre, Hoddesdon. The conference offers a unique opportunity to attend with key members of your church or ministry team, alongside others with a similar mindset to focus on mission and spiritual and numerical growth in your context. Leading your Church into Growth (LyCIG) takes the form of open seminars with interactive talks, practical exercises, workshops and time for personal reflection to enable the learning to be applied to your context.  "I came away with such inspiration and writing on the booklet ‘it’s all about the people’. I reported back to the PCC that it is down to all of us, don’t leave it the vicar. Since then we have built such a community with us all mucking in making such a welcoming and enjoyable atmosphere." Rosemary Campbell. (A previous attendee of the conference.) As a mission and ministry team, we strongly believe that this conference can play a key part in the development of healthy, growing, mission focused churches and that is why we choose to heavily subsidise the places. The price we are charging is £120 per delegate for the weekend, instead of the actual cost of £248. We encourage you to bring a group of between 3 and 8 people, to best share the learning and be able to implement it in your context more effectively afterwards. If you would like to talk it through further or require any more information please contact Kate Lomaxfor parishes in Hertfordshire and Paul Davies for parishes in Bedfordshire.

‘Explore Cursillo’ afternoon, Saturday 22 November, 14:00-16:30, Christ Church, High Oaks, St Albans

By The Diocese of St Albans

Cursillo is a movement in the Christian church aimed at committed Christians that is built on three principles of prayer, study and action. It started in Spain and the name comes from the Spanish word for a ‘short course’. It helps us to grow into a deeper relationship with God, become more effective witnesses to Christ, and to encourage and support fellow Christians. Cursillo is active in many dioceses around the country and was first commissioned in our diocese by the Bishop of Hertford on behalf of the Bishop of St Albans in October 2011. We are offering an ‘Explore Cursillo’ afternoon on Saturday 22nd November as part of the Year of Spiritual Renewal and Wellbeing. The afternoon is aimed at both clergy and lay people who want to understand more about the movement. There will be short talks explaining how Cursillo works as well as the opportunity to join with existing Cursillo members to find out how it benefits them. Please register to attend the Explore Cursillo afternoon and you can also find out more at www.stalbansdiocese.org/life-and-faith/cursillo/ or www.stalbanscursillo.com. Wise Studies

wise studies

London

Wise Studies was founded in 2014 by Ryan Spielman and Spencer Barron. Our mission is to make available in-depth audio learning courses focusing on the texts and teachings of the world’s great contemplative traditions. We work with leading scholars, practitioners and experts in their field to produce quality education for serious students of contemplative study. We aim to produce courses that are engaging and informative with authentic, well-researched scholarship supporting the topics we present. We are not only the founders of Wise Studies we are consumers, as well! One of the reasons we are producing these courses is for our own study. We are passionate about deepening our knowledge of the traditions that have brought so much wisdom and joy into our lives. We consider it an ongoing lifelong process. It is our hope to disseminate these courses to a broad audience and bridge the gap between the academic world and general public. It is important for us to maintain the rigorous standards that scholars have for their research, yet, we also want to make this research available and digestible for non-academics. Our authors have done an amazing job of producing in-depth material that is clear, comprehensible and engaging. img_4469 Ryan Spielman I have been a Yoga and meditation teacher since 1995. From a young age the spiritual journey has been the driving force of my life. Wise Studies is the natural progression of my passionate interest, deepening my understanding of the traditions that have brought so much happiness and peace into my life. In addition to my offerings as a Yoga teacher I also lead groups and facilitate workshops dedicated to personal growth and awakening in London and around the world. I host the Lonely Guru podcast dialoging with prominent figures in the world of yoga. I also write and perform spiritual comedy songs that I’m sure Wise Studies customers will enjoy. www.ryantrue.com. Spencer Barron I loved Religious Education, History and English at school. I began an intensive search for personal liberation quickly discovering a spiritual teaching that had its roots in Hindu mysticism. I met Ryan while participating in a practice with truth & authenticity at its core underpinned by the wisdom traditions we were both passionate about. Establishing and facilitating this relational practice in London and throughout the world I have expanded my interests and understanding. The creation and development of Wise Studies is a natural continuation along this path. In addition to my work with Wise Studies I spend a lot of my time in the community working with disadvantaged adults and children with learning disabilities. Share This Story, Choose Your Platform!
