Description Yoga Practitioner Diploma Yoga is a spiritual and ascetic discipline based on the ancient art of gaining deep awareness of our true selves and living in harmony with our environment. The term is derived from the Vedic Sanskrit 'yuj' which means 'to join' or 'to unite'. The practice of yoga incorporated practical, methodical and systematic techniques like breath control, simple meditation and certain body postures to enhance physical and mental health. Yoga makes the body physically strong and flexible and improves the functioning of bodily systems such as respiratory, circulatory, digestive and hormonal systems. Yoga can assist you to gain emotional balance and mental clarity. In the contemporary world, there are many misconceptions regarding this sublime art of spiritual ascension. First of all, yoga is not a religion or a religious practice. Yoga is a secular art which is considered to have originated in India. The origins of yoga can be traced back to the sixth and fifth centuries BCE in the pre-Vedic Indian traditions. Secondly, yoga is not a fad and it does not belong to the East. More than 15 million people in America practice yoga and it has been around in the West for more than a hundred years. Thirdly, yoga is not just about body postures. It is true that specific bodily postures serve as a good starting point for the multifaceted and multi-layered art of yoga. But yoga is in its true essence a path to finding inner peace and being one with nature. Yoga techniques include breathing (pranayama), control of subtle forces (mudra and bandha), cleansing the body-mind (shat karma), visualizations, chanting of mantras, and various other meditative forms in addition to posture (asana). Sadhguru:Unfortunately in the western part of the world, if you utter the word “Yoga,” people think you must twist yourself out like rubber bands or stand on your head. Yoga is not an exercise form. The word“Yoga” means union. Hatha is a Sanskrit word that can be broken down into two smaller words: ha, meaning “sun,” and tha, meaning “moon.” The word may also mean “willful” or “forceful.” In yoga, Hatha yoga is one of many types of yoga practice. The practice of Hatha yoga focuses on total mastery of the physical body, including all bodily functions. It also emphasizes activating the chakras in order to stimulate kundalini and promote spiritual and physical wellness, including disease elimination. In my session I offer various kinds of beginner friendly yog asana , pranayam and short meditation during savaasan which build your mindfulness and rejuvenate every cell of your body and mind and our brain which makes you more energetic.

I have practised yoga for over two decades and was totally hooked after my very first class. It was a complete revelation! I walked out of that class like I had woken up and seen things clearly for the first time. My whole body felt free, I was relaxed and could not get over how great I felt. I remember going to work the next day and telling a colleague that I felt "big" (in a good way). This feeling was my energy being released to flourish from whatever trapped state it had been in. My passion for yoga grew as did my personal well-being, and in 2005 when I was given an opportunity to teach, I jumped at the chance. I completed my yoga teacher training with The Devon School of Yoga and then went on to qualify as a Yoga Therapist, certified by Real Yoga, in 2012. I am registered with the Complimentary and Natural Health Care Council (CNHC). I am also a Meditation Teacher, having completed my training with Swami Saradananda. I have attended many short courses and workshops with Yoga Campus, London. These courses have been based around many aspects of yoga, the musculoskeletal system and the "correction" of bodily imbalances, which may be prominent due to general wear and tear or injury. I have also completed courses on restorative and relaxation practices, Pranayama and the history of yoga as well as a short Sanskrit course! I teach several general classes online via Zoom and offer in person or online one or two to one sessions at Sharon Gisbourne Yoga. I also run a specialist online chair based class for those who may need a more adapted approach to yoga. Working therapeutically with people one to one online may not be suitable for all conditions, but if you would like further details see the Yoga Therapy page for more details. I have experience of many styles of yoga and have spent time in India to gain knowledge of these various approaches. I like to apply myself with a holistic and eclectic approach that takes in not only the physical but also the more subtle aspects that yoga has to offer. However, although I always present myself as professionally as possible, I do like to keep everything light hearted and have fun at the same time. I have completed my training with Sheila Whittaker and I am now offering sound therapy in the form of gong baths. These are offered as private sessions and I also run group sessions. See the treatments page for further details of how to book.
