Course Introduction Our wound care training course comprehensively covers the various types of wounds, how they occur and how to manage them About this event In this Wound Management course, you will learn about wounds and how they occur, how to manage them and the different types of wounds. We will cover leg ulcers and compression bandaging. You will leave with the knowledge and confidence to complete a competency-based framework document to be used in practice. You need to identify a mentor who will supervise your practice. In order to gain your certificate, you will need to complete the competence-based framework. Aims and Objectives Comprehensively develop knowledge and skills required for safe and effective wound management. Describe the anatomy and physiology of the skin Describe the purpose of the skin Describe the causes of wounds and risk factors Understand complications Understand infection control Be able to assess and classify wounds and apply knowledge when dealing with wounds Understand your role in relation to wounds and wound management including guidelines and boundaries Describe the issues relating to the therapeutics of the relevant dressings and how they work Understand how to apply dressings safely including choice of dressing for the appropriate site and the need for observation of patient post-procedure Understand the need for audit and governance Recognise factors that delay healing Understand how to remove sutures and staples correctly Course Contents Role of the HCA Accountability responsibility guidelines and requirements Legal issues Confidentiality Consent and Capacity Documentation and record-keeping Supervision and competence Anatomy and physiology of the skin and wound healing including: inflammation, proliferation, epithelialisation, maturation Factors that promote and delay wound healing Risk factors Classification of wounds Aseptic technique and infection control What dressing for what wounds? The Emergency First Aid At Work course covers worst case scenarios and some of the more common minor injuries. It is aimed at those working in lower risk areas such as offices and shops. You will need to attend a full 7 hours of trining (breaks included) First Aid Training at Splat is relaxed and enjoyable. We aim to help you learn and support you to get what you need from the day. There are some practical and some multiple-choice assessments but our job is to ensure you have everything you need to pass these easily. Please note that First Aid can be quite physical, you will need to be able to kneel on the floor to perform CPR and Recovery Position. Please wear comfortable clothing you can move around in, and, if possible, please let us know ahead of time if there is anything we can do to help support you and your enjoyment of the day.

This one-day course will help you meet your regulatory requirements if your risk assessment indicates that first aid training covering emergency protocols only is sufficient for your workplace.

Course Summary Mini Medics - First Aid The Mini Medics courses is a Child friendly introduction to first aid and defibrillation aimed at children between the ages of 8 and 11, but it can suit children of any age from about 5 upwards. The course is kept at a basic level with no use of confusing terminologies. The mini medics course will show complete respect for the child’s ability, make it educational and practical, and instil the importance of helping someone who is poorly or injured. Fully illustrated 24-page ‘First Aid for Children’ book • A unique syringe pen in various colours (or colouring pencils) • A 4-page worksheet There is also the opportunity to purchase t-shirts and hoodies - delivered at a later date Course Contents A range of subjects are covered including: What is First Aid? Safety Communication and contacting the emergency services First Aid kits DR ABC Recovery position Choking Resuscitation (CPR) Defibrillation (AED) Wounds and bleeding Asthma Shock Certification A certificate of attendance is included with the Mini Medic book as a ‘cut-out’ for the child. Duration 3 hours (dependent on the syllabus you want covered including educational, theoretical and practical teaching sessions.
