London

Welcome to Valley Invicta Academies Trust (VIAT). Our Academy consists of an exceptional cluster of primary and secondary schools at the heart of our local community, based in the Maidstone and Malling area of Kent. VIAT was legally established as a Multi Academy Trust on 10 March, 2011. VIAT believes in the benefits of cross-phase education whereby all pupils, regardless of background, are taught a broad curriculum by specialist teachers across all ages; thereby enabling them to master the knowledge and skills they need to achieve their full educational and personal potential. Our team work tirelessly to ensure that every child can be the best they can be along with providing an innovative and interactive curriculum based on the arts and academia; we aim to be at the forefront of developing new approaches to learning, embedding the ‘mastery’ approach to teaching and learning; securing the very best outcomes for pupils. Our children only get one chance in their education and it is our responsibility to provide the very best for them. All our schools have a strong and cohesive outlook, reflecting our inclusive vision; staff and pupils are inspired to embed the values of respect and resilience, while developing personal character through additional wider curriculum activities and opportunities which motivate and enable them to grow in confidence, while cultivating thinking skills, and creative potential beyond typical expectations. This secure foundation ensures an ambitious and aspirational approach, as well as a broader commitment to, and proactive engagement in, wider society; enabling our pupils to be fully ready – academically and personally – for their transition from primary into secondary school and a life-time of influence beyond.

Superior Healthcare was founded in 2006 by Stewart Thorp, his father Charles and Sarah Richards in response to their experience of caring for Stewart’s brother and Charles’ son, Alex, who has an acquired brain injury. Alex was knocked from his bicycle whilst cycling on a country lane in 2001, by a motorist who had been using his mobile phone at the time of impact. Although sustaining only minor physical injuries, Alex suffered what proved to be a catastrophic blow to his head. Alex was rapidly transferred to the Paediatric Intensive Care Unit at King’s College Hospital, London, where he spent four weeks on life support. During a stay on the PICU and Lion Ward that would last almost three months, Alex had a tracheostomy and his breathing was managed by a ventilator. Whilst he was weaned from his ventilator, he continued to be fed via a gastrostomy tube well after his transfer to the Children’s Head Injury Service, based at Chailey Heritage in East Sussex. During a year-long stay at Chailey, Alex would learn to walk and talk again with the support of a team of support workers, nurses and healthcare professionals including physiotherapists, speech and language therapists and neurologists whilst a plan was made for his return to the family home. It was then that Charles and Stewart met Sarah Richards, the Registered Nurse who was tasked to recruit the team that would support Alex at home. In ensuing years, Charles, Stewart and Sarah worked alongside a team of healthcare professionals as well as solicitors and case managers to support Alex’s continued rehabilitation including his return to education and participation at Headway – an independent charity working to provide social rehabilitation to adults with an acquired brain injury. From their personal experience, Charles and Stewart identified the importance of a specialised care service that would bridge the gap between independent care providers and national organisations and in 2006, Superior Healthcare was founded with the objective of providing specialised services for people who have complex and long term health needs. Since then, we have worked with children, young people, adults and their families to provide twenty-four hour and respite care, which supports people during rehabilitation or to maintain their health, as well as providing a dignified service for people approaching the end of their lives. At Superior Healthcare, providing a high-quality service is a personal goal. Superior Healthcare works with Nursing & Residential Care Providers, Day Centres and Hospitals throughout Kent by offering a wide range of staffing connected services.

In 2001 the Association of British Dispensing Opticians (ABDO) established their own College, ABDO College, as a centre of excellence raising the standards in optical education for the whole profession. ABDO College is based in Godmersham, Kent and specialises in distance and blended learning education for the optical profession. It is the only college in the UK devoted solely to the teaching of the theory and practical aspects of ophthalmic dispensing and its related specialist areas. Offering a range of courses through Access, Diploma, Degree, Advanced and Honours levels, ABDO College provides members of the Association with quality programmes leading to ABDO examinations. It gives members the opportunity to enhance their own knowledge and career progression and enables development for practice staff at many levels. At the College, devotion and care are coupled with extensive professional knowledge to equip students with the understanding and skills for their chosen progression. ABDO College has an impressive reputation for high standards and exemplary pass rates. Face-to-face tuition, led by eminent and appropriately qualified lecturers, takes place at the first class training facility in Kent.
