British Youth Music Theatre is a national performing arts education charity and the largest commissioner of new musicals in the UK. Every year we engage around 2000 11-21 year olds in our auditions, workshops, Young Company and projects; BYMT helps young people and developing artists to navigate and further their training and careers in the arts. As an Arts Council England National Portfolio Organisation and National Youth Music Organisation, we ensure that youth voice is at the heart of everything we do. With over twenty years of experience performing improvised musicals, improvised plays and ‘Whose Line Is It Anyway’ type games shows, we are not only experts in using the principles of impro on stage but ALSO the possibilities it creates in everyday life. All our facilitators are well rounded professionals with experience beyond the performing arts. In fact most started elsewhere, before becoming drawn into the world of impro – only one member of our staff started out by getting a drama degree first. I've been singing and studying vocals for over 20 years. I started out in theater where I learned classical singing techniques. Ventured into writing my own music at the age of 14 and started my 1st band by the age of 15. From then to now I've worked with Rock, Country, Progressive, Acoustic, Heavy Metal and Blues bands. As well as musicals and show tunes. After high school I worked with my local community centre on opening and running our town's 1st music club, focusing on mentoring young bands and musicians. In my college years, while studying songwriting and music production in school I kept pursuing my vocal ambitions and began my work with more modern singing techniques and schools of thought such as SSL and CVT. After learning so much about the different aspect of voice production, new and old, popular and extreme, I decided it's time I ventured into teaching. Today I am a BAST graduate and a certified vocal coach. My hope is to enrich and guide as many like minded singers with the knowledge and experience I've accumulated over the years in a fun and exciting way! Singing is not only singing.
