Farhana Manzoor is an experienced qualified lecturer. She has a Master’s in Education, specialising in Curriculum Studies, from the UCL Institute of Education. She has taught for over 25 years with private institutions and government schools and colleges in the UK and abroad. She has assisted in developing learning material and whole school curriculum for British and American schools and private institutions abroad. She is a proud mother of her two sons.

I have been involved in supporting people who are in emotional and other life difficulties most of my working life, initially in volunteering, then in social work. My path from becoming a counsellor, to psychosexual therapist, trainer, clinical supervisor, university lecturer and author started in 1983. From 1993 to 2010 I worked for Sheffield Hallam University teaching counselling and later heading the Counselling Studies Unit. In 2006 I set up a counselling centre in Sheffield (Cornerstone) with a colleague, which continues to thrive. In 2010 when SHU ceased professional training for prospective counsellors I sought permission to set those courses up as part of a private training initiative. SHU was very supportive, and so The Academy: SPACE came into being. The motivations for all my work have been a wish to relieve suffering and to experience the joy of seeing others grow and develop (and, of course, to heal some of my own wounds on the way).

"Working closely with you to understand your training needs, assisting your staff to work effectively and efficiently with understanding, and giving them the appropriate skills to meet those needs." Handle With Care Training Ltd was started in 1994 by Philip and Janet Norcliffe, as a small firm absolutely committed to the delivery of the highest quality Health Care Training and Education. Philip was then a Senior Lecturer in Nursing Studies at the University of Sheffield, with special responsibility for Moving and Handling training. He has since retired from the university and now works full-time for Handle With Care Training Ltd. Our business is customer focused, responsive to the employer’s needs, carers’ needs and the users of the service, from front of house, accommodating customer needs and delivering tailored courses in a timely manner to a professional standard. We deliver training in a learner-friendly way to service users, their families, volunteers, home care staff, carers and nurses. Courses range from one hour up to five-day courses, in people’s own homes, our own training rooms and employers’ own premises, from a one to one in a service users home up to groups of 12.

Jo is a fully qualified Physiotherapist and has been working for over 17 years in the profession treating a variety of patients to include Elite athletes, Professional Ballet dancers, amateur sports participants and the general public with complex pain conditions. She completed the training to become a fully certified Modified Pilates teacher in 2003 with the Australian Physiotherapy and Pilates Institute. Jo lives with her husband, daughter, their son and a springer spaniel in Barnsley and loves keeping herself fit by attending Bootcamp sessions, personal training and running. She is aiming to do her first half marathon soon. In 2006 Jo set up Flex Pilates, originally teaching classes in North Sheffield. Since then the business has expanded to Leeds and Barnsley with people of all ages and abilities enjoying the benefits of this popular exercise. As well as teaching Pilates classes Jo also works with the APPI as an International Lecturer, teaching other Health Professionals the principles of Pilates teaching, enabling them to take the exercise into their practice. This side of her career has seen her travel to America in 2012 to teach 6 courses to rehabilitation professionals. Jo also travels within the UK, lecturing regularly on 3 different Matwork courses developed by the APPI. Having just had her second child, Jo has added Antenatal and Postnatal rehabilitation Pilates classes to the Flex Pilates' repertoire, teaching mums-to-be and new mums alike. After struggling with a muscle separation (Diastasis Recti) with her pregnancy, Jo used Pilates to re-strengthen her own core with great success. Jo is truly passionate about Pilates and loves the way it can help transform an individual's ability to function on a day-to-day basis.
