WHAT YOU WILL NEED:
Bondaweb on a roll: This is the primary material you will be using.
Fabric ground: A plain fabric base, this can be cotton or polyester (scrap fabrics for the patchwork design)
Haberdashery: Scrap fabrics and a variety of threads. Gather beads, sequins, ribbons, yarns, or any other embellishments you want to incorporate into your artwork
Iron and board: To fuse the fabric layers together, no steam. Iron should be on its hottest temperature.
Hand sewing needle and thread & hand embroidery needle and thread.
Fabric scissors.
Acrylic paint: very small amount (2 colours) & paintbrush.
Baking parchment (greaseproof paper) to protect your iron
If you are machine embroidering your artwork, you will also need:
Sewing machine with free hand capacity
Thread
Embroidery hoop

This course has been developed by NICKY SIMPSON who has developed many face-to-face and online courses, as well as delivering workshops in schools, at the Festival Of Quilts, Knitting & Stitching Show, Stitch Festival and for the National Trust.
Nicky’s own work is creating arts and craft mostly with a heat press, featuring both machine and hand embroidery. Much of her work incorporates the flora found naturally in our beautiful English countryside.

What/Who is this Training Room for?
This online Training Room is aimed at Textile and Art teachers who are either new to teaching GCSE/A Level or those who want to add to their resources, learning easy to teach textiles skills and techniques and create a sketchbook resource that can be used in the classroom by students. The techniques will be linked to relevant artists and designers and we will show a creative process from developed to refined ideas.

Your curator is NICKY SIMPSON, a contemporary textiles artist, who has 12 years teaching experience, heading up Fashion & Textiles at Hillview School in Kent and a previous 22 year career as a print designer in the heart of London. She has also mentored many graduate trainees, taken workshops at the Knitting & Stitching show, volunteers as an art therapist and for the past 5 years, has been a workshop developer and leader for Textile and Art teachers on behalf of the Textile Skills Academy.

This course is ideal for teachers who are facing classes with limited resources and equipment, or for students to complete at home.
A course full of exciting ideas and techniques for teachers of Textiles, Art & Design to include in an ‘at home’ scheme of work, or in a non-specialist classroom where you are unable to use specialist equipment, or for non-specialist teachers. 
Ideally suited for students to use while at home, or during the summer holidays and beyond. The course will include techniques that are accessible to students of all key stages.

It is a unique learning concept which allows you to learn at your own pace and still contribute, ask questions and network with other teachers through the training room discussion page.
Your curator is NICKY SIMPSON, a contemporary textiles artist, who has 12 years teaching experience, heading up Fashion & Textiles at Hillview School in Kent and a previous 22 year career as a print designer in the heart of London. She has also mentored many graduate trainees, taken workshops at the Knitting & Stitching show, volunteers as an art therapist and for the past 5 years, has been a workshop developer and leader for Textile and Art teachers on behalf of the Textile Skills Academy.

This online Training Room is aimed at Textile and Art teachers who are either new to teaching GCSE/A Level or those who want to add to their resources, learning easy to teach textiles skills and techniques and create a sketchbook resource that can be used in the classroom by students. This is an On-demand Online Course for drafting simple, basic skirt blocks that can be used to draft beautifully fitting skirts of your own design.
The course is aimed at beginners and those who want to brush up their pattern drafting skills, or to simply learn how to develop easy skirt patterns. You will learn:
Basic pattern drafting methods as used in industry, to enable you to create your own patterns.
How to correctly measure the body
Use specified measurements to create a basic block that fits
Simple adaptations involved in pattern development.
The course is delivered through short video tutorials, instruction handouts and guides, plus useful tips to support your learning experience. The course is divided into units and will provide a learning journey through simple tasks and instructions.
