Harrison's Hope

harrison's hope

Leicester

Our executive team has over 120 years of healthcare experience and works with our leadership teams and board of directors to support our caregivers.Harrison’s Hope knows that hospice care is equally about managing symptoms and addressing concerns of the patient and supporting and educating families and loved ones. A longtime employee Kristi Hartway shared, “We have always been very focused on the families.” Our Testimonials and Blog highlight a number of ways in which we have worked with patients and families to make final wishes come true. Many employees of the company have been touched by hospice themselves and truly understand the hospice benefit. These employees have seen firsthand the value, special care and services that are provided in the final months of life. Veteran care has also been a priority for Harrison’s Hope since the very beginning. In fact, the agency was one of the first hospices in the area to launch a “We Honor Veterans Program.” Veterans continue to be an important population for Harrison’s Hope and employees recognize Veterans each month through pinning ceremonies. specialized plans of care, assistance with Veteran benefits, a Veteran to Veteran volunteer program and much more. It is your choice to decide when the time for hospice is right for you. To the extent possible, hospice emphasizes quality of life and tries to give back to patients their own independence and control. Individuals who elect hospice care find that every effort is made to keep them comfortable; allowing them to spend their final months with their loved ones in the place that they call home. Ideally patients are referred to hospice when their life expectancy is approximately six months. Choosing hospice earlier allows the patient and their loved ones to make the most of their end-of-life journey. The hospice team is always there to guide them through the process and provide support – neither prolonging life nor hastening death. Please fill out our contact us form or call us at 208-286-1300 to learn more about how Harrison’s Hope can help you and/or your loved ones, today. We have hospice offices in the Boise and Twin Falls area and serve many surrounding counties. We also have sister agencies in four other regions that operate as Serenity Hospice, Hospice of Virginia, Hospice Partners, and Alamo Hospice.

Leicester Fencing Club

leicester fencing club

Leicester

Leicester Fencing Club originated from a merger between Huncote FC and Granby Halls FC in June 1989. The club was then known as the Granby Hall FC until it was no longer possible to continue fencing at the venue. Both Steve Wright and Jim Amberton had gone to Alderman Newton school at what is now Leicester Grammar School, Peacock Lane. They approached the headmaster to see whether to have fencing again on the site. Allowing his pupils free coaching, the club moved venue to the school premises. As the Club grew in size it was decided that we would have to find a larger venue. The City of Leicester School in Evington (formally Leicester City Grammar School for Boys) already had a history of fencing there, so the club moved again in 1992 and due to the change of venue a new name was required. CLUB ‘X’ was suggested but was thrown out for being too silly and finally the Leicester Fencing Club emerged from the ashes. The Deputy Head Master of the School (Alan Rudge) supported the move and growth of the Club at the School. We continued fencing there for five years but again had to move this time due to security reasons. Another venue was sought and we approached Aylestone Leisure Centre. They accepted us with open arms and the rest has been, as they say, history. The club not only looks after Foil, the club’s main weapon, but now Sabre and Epee are coached. The club provides beginner groups for youth and adults which are structured to the British Fencing Association’s Achievement Awards Scheme, all provided by a well-trained and qualified coaching team. We also support our more experienced members with weekly sessions available for further education towards higher grades or simply a safe environment to have a bit of fun. Our sessions run on Tuesdays for Foil (and Epee where in demand) and Fridays for Sabre Cadets (under 18s). Both groups meet from 7pm until 9pm during term times and occasionally run during the half term breaks and summer holiday, dependent on availability of coaches. For more information on beginner classes see the beginners section or if you are a more advanced fencer looking to switch to LFC then take a look at our membership page.

Gwma

gwma

Leicester

GWMA is a mixed martial arts system which is based in Mountsorrel Leicestershire. As a mixed martial art, GWMA’s main influences are Shotokan/Goshin Ryu karate with elements of Kung Fu. Gavin Walker is the chief instructor with 34 years’ experience in martial arts and has been running his classes for 10 years. We believe that learning martial arts should be an enjoyable experience and can benefit anyone in the following ways: 1. Self-Discipline – One of the central tenets of martial arts is a focus on self-discipline. Today’s kids are so accustomed to receiving instant gratification that lessons in self-restraint and discipline aren’t always easy to come by. Kids with a martial arts background, however, are continually reminded of how essential self-discipline is. 2. Boosting Socialization Skills – People who don’t always thrive in highly social environments may find it easier to get to know people and make new friends when they’re in a room filled with peers who share a common interest. The kids on the playground may not always have much common ground, but devotees to the martial arts are able to get to know one another through shared pursuits. 3. Encouraging Physical Activity – In todays technology based environment where most things are at a touch of a button, enrolling into a physical enjoyable activity can inspires yourself to keep moving and become fitter as a consequence. 4. Learning to Set and Achieve Goals – Most forms of martial arts are based around an accomplishment system of coloured belts that signify the wearer’s degree of skill. When your child or as an adult strives toward each new belt, they are learning valuable lessons about setting and reaching goals. 5. Increased Self-Esteem – Confidence comes with achievement, so your self-esteem level will get a boost with every new move mastered and every belt earned. People who struggle with a low sense of self-worth usually become more confident as time progresses while they’re enrolled in a martial arts class. 6. Instilling a Sense of Respect – Learning any martial arts style will require you to show your instructor respect. Today’s culture doesn’t always include respect for authority. When you go to a Martial Arts class, you will be learning lessons in respect along with new moves. 7. Developing Teamwork Skills – Working together to learn new things and accomplish goals is an important life lesson to be learnt, and instruction in the martial arts can help you learn that lesson. 8. Improvement in Other Areas of Life – The benefits of martial arts training don’t end in the dojo. The boost in confidence, increased fitness levels and new cooperation skills will help you in other areas of life. The classes are open to all abilities and anyone over the age of 4yrs old can take part.

JFP Advanced Pilates Ideal if you have been practising Pilates for quite some time, are fit and healthy and would like to push the boundaries by joining a class that often includes a powerful and challenging abdominal workout section, with exercises taken from the original classical mat sequences developed by Joseph Pilates. What do I need? All you need to do to take part in Pilates are some comfortable clothes, and if taking part in online classes, a space to lie down and access to a laptop, PC, iPad, tablet or mobile phone. A mat is optional, although most people tend to have their own. If not you are welcome to borrow one of mine. A Pilates head cushion can be useful, or a folded towel will do the same job if you do not have one. Online classes take place via the online meeting platform ZOOM which is ever so easy to set up. If you are not so sure, you can always contact me to help you and you can also take a look at my ZOOM Hints and Tips article in my blog area. What do I need to remember? You should always listen to your own body and work at a level that is right for you, especially when participating in online classes. I aways say that nothing I say is ever compulsory; if you feel like you need to take a rest that is absolutely what you must do. If at any point during your class you begin to feel faint, dizzy or have physical discomfort, you should stop immediately and seek medical advice. Please follow instructions careful and apply your judgement regarding the suitability of any exercises, choosing the level and any progressions that are appropriate for you, and resting when you need to do so. By participating in Pilates classes, you are doing so at your own risk. Jane Fletcher Pilates is not responsible or liable for any injury or harm you may sustain as a result of taking part.
