Throughout this course, we explore key topics including the historical context of LGBTQ+ rights, the impact of societal attitudes on mental health, and the importance of affirming practices in therapy. You will also learn about the intersectionality of LGBTQ+ identities with other aspects of diversity, such as race, ethnicity, and socioeconomic status, providing a holistic view of your clients’ experiences. Our goal is to create a deeper understanding and awareness of the LGBTQ+ community, empowering you to build meaningful, respectful relationships with clients and colleagues from all backgrounds. By the end of this course, you will be better equipped to challenge biases, advocate for inclusivity, and support the mental health needs of LGBTQ+ individuals.

During the height of a global pandemic and in the midst of significant and justified civil unrest, in a cramped student flat with a laptop and a message, Breaking Binaries was born. Frustrated by existing awareness training that seeks to convince corporations that queer people belong in a faulty system, rather than demanding meaningful change, our bespoke workshops and expert consultancy brings together gender studies, philosophy, racial justice and the law to educate, inspire and give our clients the tools to create positive change. Our clients are disrupters, influencers and architects of change, passionate about trans and non-binary liberation and are unafraid to use their voice to make a difference. Breaking Binaries is lead by Finn Grice (He/They), a proudly queer, trans masculine LGBTQA+ sector expert, advocate and policy researcher, who has been disrupting the status quo from an early age, leading his peers to use their voices to create change.

Abbey College Manchester is an independent sixth form college situated on Cheapside in Manchester city centre. Most of our 220 students study A-Levels, GCSEs or one of our International Foundation Programme pathways. We also offer a unique alternative to A-Levels called the Combined Studies Programme which provides an alternative pathway to UK Universities for British Students. Another exciting and popular programme of study is the Academic Studies with Football or Basketball Training, which offers the students the opportunity to combine GCSE, A-Level or the International Foundation Programme study with their passion for sport. We strongly believe that the discipline of sport helps support academic study in the form of the 5 Rs; Routine, Rigour, Responsibility, Resilience and Reflection. We offer a friendly, safe, supportive environment where students can achieve their goals and move on to their chosen university.
