Looking for career-focused practical filmmaking? Do you want to learn more about the work of different departments in film and get hands-on filmmaking experience before deciding on your career path? Screen and Film School Brighton’s Professional Diploma is a 9-month part-time course designed to provide you with the essential skills required to successfully operate in the UK film and TV industry today. The course allows you to specialise in one field or become a self-sufficient freelancer such as a shooting producer director, editor, production coordinator or content creator.

An intensive two-year course with a School located in the heart of London, the MA Filmmaking trains to a professional level in a full range of filmmaking skills. Students leave with a portfolio of directing, cinematography, editing, producing, production design and sound credits. The school produces a huge output of films each year on this particular programme, many of which are screened at key festivals annually, previously winning many prizes, including at Locarno, Berlinale, Edinburgh, LaCinef (Cinéfondation). Learning is based on short film production and our students make a new film each term. Each term these film exercises become more technically sophisticated, more considered and more complex in their ambitions. The school specifies the skill base for each exercise, providing the equipment and training students to new levels in each of the various craft skills. Students make all aesthetic decisions while solving problems similar to those faced by professional units, on a steeply increasing slope of difficulty. The work is constantly assessed and critiqued.  This is the core of the London Film School method. Students learn by applying themselves to aesthetic and practical problems generated by the actual process of filmmaking.

This 10-week short course is perfect for students who are passionate about film and would like to explore different aspects of filmmaking in a fun, practical and creative manner. You will be given the opportunity to work with professional actors to shoot your first short film. Using a combination of practical workshops, presentations and film analysis, the course will provide you with experience and support in writing for the screen, producing, shooting and editing broadcast-quality moving images, and understanding screen acting techniques from both actor and director perspectives.

The BA (Hons) Film Business & Production degree reflects current demands for professionally ready graduates equipped with the vital creative, business and entrepreneurial skills to navigate the modern film, screen and media environment.

Screen and Film School invites you to get creative with this degree course, a course which has everything you will need to succeed in the fast-moving world of design within the screen and film industry. Talented individuals with these skills are in high demand, and we’ll give you the exact launchpad you’ll need to succeed upon graduating. This degree course has been developed to reflect the recent huge surge in demand for professional, technically skilled production design graduates who are equipped with vital creative, logistic and production skills, who are ready to enter into the industry. Fundamental to the delivery of this course is the teaching of production design within the broader Film School environment. This unique shared arrangement will enable you to hone specialist design skills in the classroom and test them out in live film projects. You will also gain an understanding of your place within film production and build a network of peers, alongside whom you can progress throughout your education and then on into the workplace.

Max will be joining us on Thursday afternoon to discuss how best to market yourself and find work as a freelancer in the film and television industries. With years of experience under his belt, this will be a great Life Skills Session to attend to learn about life after CFS. Max will also discuss his experiences founding a production company and operating as a sole trader, so that attendees can learn of all the many ways to make a living independently in the business. A Q+A Session will take place for anything specific people wanted to ask. Be sure to book your free ticket in advance so that you don't miss out!

Date: Tuesday 3rd October Time: 4pm Location: Studio A Lucy Percival will be holding a talk on 'How to Find Your Ideal Role in Film & Navigating the World of Independent Filmmaking & Financing' Lucy has produced award-winning short films through both independent production companies and organisations such as the BFI and NFTS. Her films have been screened at numerous BAFTA qualifying festivals, including Raindance, Bolton International Film Festival and Carmarthen Bay Film Festival. She has now joined Window Zebra Productions as their Senior Creative Producer overlooking and developing the narrative slate. Come and hear her thoughts and suggestions on how you can find your wheelhouse and get started on your creative journey.
