KitchenJoy is a Cookery School with a difference; providing cookery courses that combine experiential learning of culinary skills with a medicinal foundation to promote health and wellbeing. Each session has a specific focus from learning to boost your immune system and energy levels, what foods can nourish your body to good mood foods, and cooking for healthy brain function. Using nutritional pillars to inspire the recipes, seasonal ingredients are locally sourced and specifically selected to promote wellbeing. When my daughter was a toddler, she suddenly became very ill. Despite countless emergency trips to the hospital, the medics could not determine the source of her symptoms. After various inconclusive tests, we finally found clarity through the health of a naturopath, who diagnosed Alex with an allergy of Aspertame, an artificial sweetener. With natural medicine, Alex’s symptoms cleared up immediately.

We hold regular meetings with a range of speakers; giving members the opportunity to exchange views, network and obtain information on topical issues. We send regular correspondence to ensure that members are kept up to date with events, local or national government policy & regulatory changes that impact on the Independent Sector. Membership of GCPA is considered a sign of a progressive organisation, committed to delivering the highest standards of care and keen to play an active part in the county’s wider social care community. Representatives of the Gloucestershire Care Providers Association attend regular strategic and liaison meetings with Social Care Officers, to discuss and review contracts, procedures and other issues. We also work very closely with the NHS, including the Clinical Commissioning Group and Gloucestershire NHS Foundation Trust throughout the county, working together on a variety of initiatives aimed both at tackling immediate issues facing vulnerable people and designing better ways of working for the future. In addition we have strong links with CQC (Care Quality Commission) and regularly liaise with Senior County Councillors, local MPs, local authority Commissioners and other decision makers, influencers and interested organisations. Over recent years Sara Ward and her family have transformed their Victorian terrace house into an urban smallholding allowing them to have the best of both worlds. Nestled in West London, they are living the good life complete with 22 hens, three colonies of honey bees, a fruitful kitchen garden and a micro bakery which is making up to 100 loaves of bread each Friday along with hundreds of sticky buns, cakes and savoury treats. Whilst Sara and the family continue to expand their hands-on skills, they train and encourage others through their schools programme, writing, and series of courses that are run from Hen Corner throughout the year. Be it jam making, wood carving, bee keeping or bread baking, there’s always something new that we can learn.
