On this course we go into far greater detail on understanding the dog’s needs, behaviour, state of mind, language, and improving your leadership skills.
Behavioural Foundation Course. The foundation course is a great opportunity to learn about your dog’s needs.
Puppy training classes and dog training classes are suitable for general dog training and relationship building. Classes are run in line with the IMDT (Institute of Modern Dog Traioners) code of ethics, and training techniques are based upon positive reinforcement, using dog treats or dog toys and play as rewards for completing the actions we ask the puppy or dog to complete. Classes will be limited to 6 people, to ensure I can circulate and provide individual feedback relevant to your puppy or dog training. We will teach foundation behaviours, with the benefit of being in a dog training class environment, which relies on your dog working around the distraction of other dogs. Classes will also teach you to effectively communicate with your dog and give you the skills to practice outside of classes and implement the training in your every day life, in a rage of environments. Puppy training classes and Dog training classes last 1 hour. They are run on Friday mornings in Bishop's Stortford. Puppy training class= 9:30am Dog training class= 11:00am DOG TRAINING CLASSES BISHOP'S STORTFORD Puppy training group class= £100 (6 classes) Dog training group class= £100 (6 classes) Classes are run in blocks of 6 weeks. Focusing on you and your dog outside of a group class setting, in a 1-2-1 dog training session, can be really useful for you and your dog. We can focus on specific goals you may have, from teaching a dog a new game such as retrievals or flirt pole, to training for specific situation such good dog manners when guests come to our house. We can also develop a training plan to help address existing undesirable behaviours your experiencing such as your dog pulling on lead, your dog not performing recall, dog to dog reactivity, dog to person reactivity or even your dog chasing birds or squirrels. 1-2-1 dog training sessions are typically 1 hour or 1.5 hours long, depending on the issue, or number of things you want to look at in a single session. Training can be carried out in your home/ garden or out at an agreed location, such as a local park, if suitable for you and your dog's particular issue. I am also happy for you to travel to me to train your dog at an agreed location. 1-2-1 dog training prices: 1 hour = £60, including follow up report. 1.5 hours= £90, including follow up report. (Longer sessions can be arranged by agreement, priced on an individual basis.) Above prices are based on Dog Training being in and around Bishop's Stortford (IE Sawbridgeworth, Much Hadham, Little Hallingbury, Harlow, Puckeridge, Standon, Manudon), I am happy to travel, subject to agreed travel costs.
Open to anyone who has been to me for training, either 4 week basic course or the loose lead & recall workshops and understand how I encourage you to communicate with your dogs. We will continue to build on the basics - lead work around distractions, walking to heel off lead, recall, sit stay, impulse control, and manners around other dogs at a distance. Practising 'leave it' and 'drop' at a distance and going on group walks. If you have attended an introductory class with me, or your dog already has basic manners and you are ready to continue practising, this is the course for you
We will discuss and practise basic manners and behaviours and how to attain those through primarily reward-based training, the timing and types of rewards, and setting boundaries using distraction, redirection and appropriate correction for unwanted behaviours. The behaviours we will primarily cover will be; • Loose lead walking, including desensitisation to exciting triggers such as other dogs • Recall - ensure this is a positive, fun behaviour, for both you and your dog, and to ensure your dog doesn't learn to ignore your recall. • Sit, stay and wait • Impulse control games. We will also discuss and practice, where possible, manners and long-term aims for a well-mannered family dog, such as meeting strangers and other dogs, visitors to the home and unwanted barking or nervousness. Other issues as needed by individuals that arise in the group discussions
In private individual lessons, I aim to demonstrate, and help you learn, that we can communicate effectively with our dogs during our daily lives. For dogs we primarily do this with reward-based training and the use of resources and consequences of actions, for both the dog and yourself. We will also discover that it is ok to ask the dog not to do certain things, but in a non-aggressive way, to help the dogs understand what we don’t consider acceptable. We will further find that we can either encourage or suppress certain behaviours with positive and negative reinforcement and affirmatively communicate with dogs. The initial 1-hour consultation and lesson will usually occur at my premises near Lumphanan, so we can discuss and practice in a neutral, controlled environment. During this session I take the time to understand you, your dog and your needs. I also conduct training and address any behavioural issues. We often solve many of the common problems in this initial session. If needed, subsequent training can take place at my premises or a location that suits the issues - such as your home or a public place. The types of issues that I commonly help with are; Pulling on the lead Reactive behaviour when walking your dog on a lead - either over excitement or fear aggression Dog recall issues. Jumping up and bad manners with visitors and family members Excessive barking. Toilet training problems. Excessive 'mouthing' or biting. Stealing food or other objects. Anything else!
