✅ Aim of the Course: To provide carers and support staff with a clear understanding of Positive Behaviour Support (PBS), enabling them to recognise the reasons behind challenging behaviour and use proactive, person-centred strategies to reduce distress and enhance quality of life.
🎯 Learning Outcomes: By the end of this course, delegates will be able to:
Define Positive Behaviour Support and explain how it differs from traditional behaviour management approaches.
Recognise the reasons (functions) behind behaviours that challenge, including how unmet needs and communication difficulties can play a role.
Describe the ABC model (Antecedent–Behaviour–Consequence) and how it is used in behavioural analysis.
Identify proactive strategies to prevent challenging behaviour and promote positive alternatives.
Outline the key elements of a person-centred PBS plan, including environmental adaptations, communication support, and skill-building.
Reflect on the importance of quality of life in reducing challenging behaviour and supporting individual wellbeing.
Demonstrate empathy and curiosity, rather than judgement, when responding to behaviours that challenge.
