The 5-day course introduces the nature and evolution of simple and complex structures and how to interpret them. The course also discusses the timing of structures relative to hydrocarbon generation and migration and the consequent risk or COS. The following structures are covered: Introduction, Extension, Inversion, Strike-Slip and Salt. The participants can assess the workflows required for successful structural analysis and apply the necessary after the course. The course uses a mixture of lecture and practical sessions along with a discussion of software-based approaches for structural analysis. The course will include case studies and examples from all tectonic settings.
TRAINING OBJECTIVES
Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to:
Gain a full understanding of structures imaged by seismic
Understand the formation and geometry of structures in different tectonic settings
Be able to assess the impact of structures at all scales in exploration, appraisal and production settings
Recognize the growth and linkage of fault systems to provide the most accurate structural framework for reservoir modelling and development planning
Explore the interaction of the structures with the depositional systems to improve prediction of reservoir occurrence and distribution
Understand how seismic data are used in fault seal analysis
Recognize how seismic data are used to assess the geology of fractured reservoirs
TARGET AUDIENCE
The course is intended for all exploration and development geologists, geophysicists, technical assistants and engineers with an interest or focus on structural geology.
Geologist
Geophysicist
Subsurface petroleum engineer
Sedimentologists and stratigraphers
Basin modellers
Seismic interpreters

TRAINER
Your expert course leader is a structural geologist with wide experience in hydrocarbon exploration, appraisal and production. His experience ranges from basin-wide evaluations, through field scale interpretations and analysis, to fractured core studies. He previously worked for BP Exploration, Badley Earth Sciences and Robertson Research and has assisted the following companies; Addax Petroleum, BG, BP, Cairn UK & India, CNOOC, ConocoPhillips, Maersk, Statoil, and others.
POST TRAINING COACHING SUPPORT (OPTIONAL)
To further optimise your learning experience from our courses, we also offer individualized “One to One” coaching support for 2 hours post training. We can help improve your competence in your chosen area of interest, based on your learning needs and available hours. This is a great opportunity to improve your capability and confidence in a particular area of expertise. It will be delivered over a secure video conference call by one of our senior trainers. They will work with you to create a tailor-made coaching program that will help you achieve your goals faster.
