Description

Give your wardrobe a second life.

Do you have a "to-be-fixed" pile that never seems to get smaller? Or a beautiful piece of fabric or clothing that just needs a creative tweak to make it wearable again?

The Mend & Make-Over session is a dedicated 3-hour monthly workshop designed to help you repair, resize, and reinvent the textiles you already own. Unlike a structured class where everyone makes the same thing, this session is project-led by you. Whether you are a total beginner or a seasoned stitcher, you’ll have access to expert guidance to help you navigate your specific repair or upcycling challenge.

What you can work on:

  • Visible Mending: Turning tears into features with sashiko-style stitching or patches.

  • Invisible Repairs: Fixing split seams, darning knitwear, or replacing zips.

  • Alterations: Taking up hems, shortening sleeves, or adjusting fits.

  • The "Make-Over": Brainstorming how to turn old garments into something entirely new (e.g., turning trousers into a skirt or a dress into a top).

  • The "Make-Over" & Beyond: Don’t limit yourself to just clothes! We can help you brainstorm and execute ways to turn sentimental or high-quality textiles into entirely new functional items. If it’s made of fabric, we can help you reinvent it.

Not sure what to make? Here are some ideas of what you can achieve:

  • Memory Projects: Turn a collection of outgrown baby clothes or a loved one's shirts into a memory cushion or start a keepsake quilt.

  • Home Styling: Transform vintage curtains into tote bags, or turn a damaged tablecloth into a set of reusable napkins.

  • Accessories: Give a worn-out wool jumper a new life as a cosmetic bag, a hot water bottle cover, or even a pair of mittens.

  • The Ultimate Flip: Turn those jeans that are "beyond repair" into a sturdy denim tool apron or a cross-body bag.

Note on Materials: We can provide a selection of basic threads and scrap fabrics for patching. If you require specific items like matching zips, specialist buttons, or large pieces of interfacing, you are welcome to bring your own or purchase them from our studio "haberdashery" on the day.

What to Bring:

  • The garment(s) or textiles you want to work on.

  • Any specific "matching" notions (like a specific color thread or a button you love).

  • An open, creative mind!

Spaces are limited to ensure everyone gets 1-on-1 time with the tutor. Secure your spot for the January session below
